I would love to see Yao give a finger wag on the next shot he blocks out of respect to Deke (same goes for every shot blocker in this league, they need to give a finger wag also). Deke wasn't just a great player, he was a ambassador to the world who just happened to play basketball. He's a great human being, I wish him the best.

Default Mt. Mutumbo!

My first thought after I saw him go down like that is that this would be it for him. Sad to have his career end like this.

ISH should change the name of the smilie to something that would honor him.

They should just simply call it "Mutombo".

In all of my years of watching basketball, I've never seen a player age as well as Deke. The guy came in late in his career and picked off where he left off in his early years. Houston didn't count on him much, but the Dude still had serious game.....at the age of like 43 (or however old he says he is) this was a guy who would come into games and play like he was 23.

When given serious minutes this Dude would constantly DOMINATE BOARDS AND BLOCK SHOTS at a age that everybody laughed at....he was still a dominate defensive player regardless that he was about to receive his AARP card, and that was simply AMAZING. (I remember threads last season when Yao was out asking who was better..Shaq or Deke and Deke was holding his own) he was special and if Houston loses this series his loss is the reason why. Oden has the stat advantage over Deke in that first game, but anybody that watched that game could clearly see Deke took the young buck to school and beat him on the boards. Deke was the ageless wonder (seriously...when's the last time a 40+++ player dominated and played at such a high level as Deke?), too bad everything came to a end on one play.

The guy was simply a "GREAT" player... especially on defense.

I'm sad to see him go out like this, but at the same time he had a terrific and lengthy career, and I know he'll get an appropriate ovation from the fans whenever he comes back to visit.

It saddened me to see Mutombo go down. The moment he was holding his knee, I knew it was the end of his career because he was so close to retirement as it was. When he was taken off the court, everybody applauded (as expected), but for me, I was giving him his final standing ovation.

Great idea for a great guy. They things he's done off the court will last long after he's gone.

See what you think:
