Default Stoudemire Shuts It Down Again

Stoudemire shuts it down again

By Jerry Brown, Tribune
October 6, 2006

Amaré Stoudemire's up-and-down comeback from two knee surgeries hit another snag Thursday. The franchise forward was unable to practice upon the Suns’ arrival in Rome to prepare for Friday's exhibition game against Virtus Lottomatica Roma.

Stoudemire sat out a practice Monday in Treviso and missed two days of voluntary workouts in Phoenix two weeks ago because of pain in his right knee, which he had minor surgery on in March. But an NBA source said that Stoudemire was complaining of soreness in both knees this time, the first time he's talked about problems with the left knee — which underwent microfracture surgery on Oct. 15 of last year — in more than a month.

Phoenix coach Mike D'Antoni said he didn't have any specifics on Stoudemire's condition, other than to say he sat out because of knee soreness. "He said he was stiff and he couldn't go," D'Antoni said. "I don't know if the plane flight (from Treviso to Rome) had an effect or not. We're not going to push things at this point."

D'Antoni said he would have started Kurt Thomas at center and Boris Diaw at power forward in the exhibition game whether or not Stoudemire had practiced Thursday, but now he is unsure if Stoudemire will play at all in Rome.

"We'll see what things look like (this) morning," he said.

This just ain't good. I read about this also. Hopefully everything will be ok when the season starts. I think they should start Kurt Thomas and bring Amare from the bech at the start of the season.

It's not good news for sure. Let's just hope that eventually he'll be okay. Until then, the team needs to go on without him, until he shows that he can actually play. I would love to have him, but he will hold the team back.

I know its heresy, but for the sake of discussion:

As of today, in GM terms, WHAT IS AMARE WORTH??????

Max contract, injured, may yet be a future MVP or a Chris Webber. Is he tradeable, and if so, what could the suns get in the exchange? Realistically!!

Okay, GMs, make your offers.

Oh, you're no fun. I'll do a few easies:

[1] Amare for Bron = TRADE, if only b/c amare's injured right now.
[2] Amare for KG????? Trade the future for a chance to win now?
[3] Amare for Webber = Hell no!

Didn't Amare get his injury the same way Brian Grant did? Playing Center in a PF's body? And if so, would it be the coaches fault for misusing such an important player?

Just a thought.

Wow. A very solid and careful set of highly paid, second tier players!

Too bad Gasol is injured too. He's not great himself, but Nash could probably make a star out of him.

What about the up'n'comers. Would we want a Howard, Gooden or Wilcox thrown into the deal? Is Bosh untouchable?

i doubt gooden would be enough for phx. wilcox needs to prove that he can produce for an entire season. Bosh is Toronto's man, they want to keep him and they have a nice thing going up there

havent you guys considered that amare will never be the same? hes got TWO bad knees....he will never be the same bang-em-up ower big man he used to be. He'll have to change his game to be a lot more about finesse than power. How bad does that suck? Hes the next Chris Webber man.

Howard or Bosh would be players to trade STAT for, but only if he dosn't get to full 100%, otherwise phoenix should keep him.

Just because he is stiff doesn't mean he has bad knees. It's stupid to think he would be 100% right now...it will take a little while
