Woke up this AM, only to see Joe Torre's smiling face... so i think how lucky did he have it as coach??
He coached the Yankees, back when they were pretty solid and were in the WS every year.
& he is now coaching the Dodgers, one of the most talented teams in the MLB.
So I pose this question, is Joe Torre a great manager or has he been coaching the best talent in the majors and his #s are more off of his players talent alone rather than his ability to manage an ML club...
-GOAT media-handling manager.
-Terrible in-game manager (worst bullpen handler of all-time - killed so many arms in his day).
-Great with veteran players.
-Underrated with the young guys
-Benefited big time from the talent on his teams(take a look at his record before coming to the Yanks. Ew.)
-Overall, very neutral manager - will lose a few games for you with stupid bullpen decisions, will win a few for you with his presence.
It takes a certain type of manager to deal with all the BS that goes on in NYC. Torre never was bothered by any of the media crap. He was the perfect public figurehead for that organization during their reign, and that alone (in that city) is just important as any managerial skills.
