Default Lakers-Rockets Game 6 was the most watched ever on ESPN

Quote:
http://bit.ly/18NHV1
Game 6 of the Western Conference semifinal series between the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets was the most watched basketball game ever on ESPN.

The Rockets’ 95-80 victory on Thursday drew 7.35 million viewers, topping the 6.6 million that watched Miami beat Detroit in Game 6 of the 2006 Eastern Conference finals.

The game earned a 5.4 national rating and a 16.0 rating in Houston, ESPN’s highest local rating for an NBA telecast. ESPN’s audience for its six conference semifinal games is up 16 percent from last year.

The rating is the percentage of all homes with televisions tuned into a program, while the share is the percentage of all TVs in use at the time.

wow.

Houston has become the people's champion......plain and simple.

People all across the country can identify with their blue collar mentality and the way they've fought through extreme adversity is admirable. Then you throw on the fact that they're doing it against a spoiled team that thinks it's got some sort of entitlement and many more people get behind them.

Seriously....on our local radio sports shows we are having NBA fans from across the country calling in and expressing how refreshing it has been to watch professional athletes play as one and give absolute max effort when nobody would've blamed them at all if they got discouraged and laid down. Houston is kinda like the Rocky Balboa of NBA teams right now....everybody's favorite underdog.

Moral of the story:
The NBA has never regained the popularity Jordan brought it and ESPN playoff basketball will never compete with the NBA on NBC. Also the NBA hasn't been on ESPN very long either. That's like Spike TV bragging about some UFC fight's ratings.

What were the rating for game 5? To me it seems like the games when the Rockets win are getting bigger ratings than when the Lakers win. Alot people want to the Lakers go down

I thought I would come in here and see all the China-bashing but this is only national? If so, that is pretty darn impressive.

A 5 national rating SUCKS. The NBA can't even compete with the WWE. Real talk.

I am sure that in China more than 75 million have watch it.

BTW, isnt that rating better than the Cavs-Spurs finals?

Shut up. Just Shut up. Shut the F**k up. That is real good for 'cable' ratings. Losers like you & others who are still livng in the past when there were only 3 Channels to watch during the 80's & the 90's for the most part.

Market share has changed.

Just like Network news is struggling when there was once Titans like Walter Conkrite, Dan Rather, Tom Brokaw, etc among other Icons during the three network news era. Those days are now OVER when you have 24 hour news,internet,etc......just as the days of 14/15 + ratings in the NBA . Get over it loser.

There is now Digital cable,Satellite TV/Radio, Internet, Internet porn, online gaming, Tivo & other sources of enertainment & news stealing market share.

You & others are too stupid to understand that market share has shrink for most mediums especially a 'niche' League like the NBA.
It was the 'Most watched ever' according to the OP & that is something.
Damn.

Eat a dick you ******, oh wait, you already are. Make excuses all you want. 18+ rating for Jordan only 10 years ago you flaming biotch! 5 rating is complete garbage. More people saw the last episode of Lost form this season than they watched the dumb Lakers choke to the Rockets you apologist.
