Default Lance Stephenson to FIU a possibility

Quote:
One school that has less to lose than Arizona and Memphis and might take a flyer on Stephenson is Florida International. The Isiah Thomas-led program took a last-minute stab at Kentucky signee Eric Bledsoe and is now pursuing Stephenson.

Florida International also recently hosted Williams on an official visit. Unfortunately for Memphis, Williams took his visit to FIU the weekend before he was expected to sign with the Tigers. Williams then spent this past weekend at Georgetown, while Memphis' chances dim.

So Isaiah has went after both of the remaining 5* recruits and actually got one of them to take a visit to FIU. Wouldn't it be crazy if they both ended up in Miami?

Maryland no longer recruiting Stephenson.

Memphis is still interested:

Stephenson would put up good numbers in that division, and he would be Isiah's first 5 star recruit. It would really help both of them.

It would only help Isiah if Stephenson elevated FIU's presence in the eyes of future recruits, because he'd only be there a year and is unlikely to help them win anything of note. He's more likely to do harm than good, which is why a player with his ability is seeing his options dry up.

How much time does he have before he has to choose a school?

X2.
How would Lance playing in a inferior division help him?

As long as he's enrolled bythe time school starts, he can go all the way until August, or early September, whenever the school he chooses starts classes.

Brandon Rush, for example, picked Kansas in late August four years ago, and in fact KU may have already started classes when he enrolled. I may be wrong about that. I know I remain confused as to how he got in, because he was set on coming to Illinois before he couldn't get admitted.

It wouldnt help him without interest at FIU, where there will be none next season.

In 5 years, FIU will probably be one of the better non BCS schools in the country and will have developed a following of bandwagoner fans to go along with it.

The school of course will have to do their part to upgrade athletic facilities, reach a deal to have their big games played at a larger venue like American Airlines Arena, and they will have to produce some relevant NBA prospects.

Just out of curiosity, what makes you believe it's probable- ie, more likely to happen than not happen- that Florida International will be up there with the likes of Gonzaga, Memphis and Xavier within five years?

Is it Isiah's complete lack of college coaching experience that makes it such a solid bet? Or his near-total failure in everything he's done except playing basketball?

Is it that a couple of top recruits- who come with baggage- have been rumored to maybe, kinda-sorta be curious about FIU?

I'm not saying it's impossible, I just don't see how it's probable.

He works much better with young players and hes a very good scout of talent.A lot of people dont give him credit for his scouting ability, which will help him in the game of recruiting.

Yep.
When has anyone else of note ever been interested in FIU?
And then for even one to visit and consider the program that at the time didnt even have assistant coaches.

There is a real lane he can exploit in the college ranks, people know who he was as a Pro, he can tell kids what they need to do to get to the NBA, he has been through enough wrong to tell kids what they need to do to do right.

If I were a recruit I'd want to play for a coach like Isiah.

No real proof of this.

Because there's no real proof of it.

Without a doubt, Isiah has brought some attention to the program that was previously never there. Like I said, not impossible for FIU to raise their profile nationally.

There has never been a correlation between ability to play the game and ability to teach the game, and there never will be. Some have been good at both- not many- but it's coincidental when it happens. There are plenty of college coaches who have sent good players to the NBA over and over that never set foot on an NBA court.

I'd rather play for someone that I'm confident is a good person; I think there's ample evidence that Isiah may very well be a miserable human being. I'd rather play for somene that I'm confident will make me a better player; there's no evidence that Isiah will be able to do that for college players. Maybe he will, we'll see. Personally, I sort of doubt it.

I wouldnt want that kid as part of my program....He is selfish and and has a bad attitude on the court and he thinks he is way better than he is. Not a good way to start if Isiah brings him in
