Default Suns execs eyeing prospects in ChiTown

Quote:
The Suns brass will be in Chicago Wednesday for the NBA Pre-Draft Camp after a busy Memorial Day weekend watching 12 prospects in closed workouts over two days at US Airways Center.

The Suns, picking 14th in the June 25 draft, looked at seven first-round candidates: Pittsburgh wide-body banger DeJuan Blair, Arizona shooter Chase Budinger, Duke athletic swingman Gerald Henderson, point guards Jrue Holiday from UCLA and North Carolina's more seasoned Ty Lawson, and two long wings in Gonzaga's skilled but thin Austin Daye and Wake Forest's well-rounded James Johnson.

After the Pre-Draft Camp, the Suns executives will attend a group workout next week in Oakland where they will get a chance to see at least three more candidates: Virginia Commonwealth point guard Eric Maynor, Louisville swingman Terrence Williams and Ohio State center B.J. Mullens.

"I feel like 14 has the potential to be a very valuable pick," Suns Senior Vice President of Basketball Operations David Griffin said. "We feel the draft may not be as top-heavy as previous ones but may be deeper than others."

The Suns also will take part in a group workout in New Jersey in two weeks after General Manager Steve Kerr and Director of Player Personnel Todd Quinter attend Reebok Eurocamp in Italy, where former Arizona recruit Brandon Jennings headlines the field.
