Re: WNBA teams selling advertising on their uniforms
I deleted a few posts that are disrespectful to women in general - everyone please keep in mind that we a: have some female posters here at ISH, and b: want to make ISH a welcoming place to all humans, and that certainly includes women.
Back to the subject at hand - I've always wondered why we don't see more advertisements on shoes, which is the one place they're allowed in the NBA. Why don't we see Pepsi shoes? Geico shoes? Even if there's a rule against putting ads on shoes, those companies can just say that they've released a line of shoes and signed an NBA player to a shoe deal - then they hire Nike or Reebok to manufacture them and slap a logo on.
Re: WNBA teams selling advertising on their uniforms
This will never happen, in the NBA.
The only reason it has happened in the WNBA is because the WNBA loses money every year. Without the NBA the WNBA wouldn't even exist. The NBA has to give money to the WNBA, so that it can survive.
Basically, anything to make some kind of money is good for the WNBA. Hell, if they could get players to get Nike swoosh tattoos, they probably would allow it and do it.
WNBA is on life support. It needs all the money it can get. The NBA is making money and will continue to make money.
Re: WNBA teams selling advertising on their uniforms
it could happen in the NBA but the process would be very slow. They might start with a smaller, less prominent logo and go from there. However I would hope stern and co just decide the risk of lost sales is not worth the few extra bucks.
Re: WNBA teams selling advertising on their uniforms
Yeah this sucks I hope to god no Pro Male American sports team do this it's ugly.
I mean like all those futball (soccer) clubs etc. with Vodaphone and other companies on their uniforms. It's ugly....I don't want to ever buy a Nascar type jersey for B-ball, baseball or football. F*ck that.
Re: WNBA teams selling advertising on their uniforms
i don't really see why this would happen to the league.. people actually WATCH the nba, therefore, revenue. no one watches the WNBA, therefore, they need to find other means to make revenue.

on their sports jerseys. they don't like ads on their jerseys. the brand name on clothes is not the same as an ad on a shirt. im not going to debate that, you want to play semantics and it gets you excited go ahead but its clearly not the same thing.
if an american team jersey has a patch or something it needs to be small, non descript and be associated with the team. and people STILL *****. ads wouldn't go over. Great it goes over in soccer. it doesn't here.

No Joke.
If you make basically 65k or more a year, you make more than the average WNBA player, who makes on average $46,000 to $60,000(or less, these are 2003-2004 stats. It's probably much lower now.)
Also, don't forget the WNBA loses money every year. So, anyone who makes money during a year, makes more money than the WNBA does. Yet, somehow they are still playing their employees. You can thank the NBA, for that.
