Can they? Yes, if they are willing to pay Tax.
Will they? No. I'd say there is more of a chance they keep Gortat now (which sucks) as he is $6-$7 million dollar and Turk would have been $11 or $12. That $4/$5 is a huge difference.

you can't really blame Carter. He's played on some pretty thin teams during his playoff years.
His most recent "choke" was in 2007 when he just didn't have enough in the tank against Cleveland.
But if you put him on a stacked team like Orlando and ask him to be no more than a 2nd option (3rd perhaps behind Lewis and Howard, if Turk is gone), then you give him more energy to call on some Vintage Vinsanity.
Afterall, the Nets have been riding him hard these past few years. He's been playing iron man with virtually no chronic injuries (a game here or there to rest) and playing at as high a level he possibly can, from playing point guard (seriously, Nets never had a good backup behind Kidd and Harris/Dooling tend to get injured now and then) to playing power forward (in a small ball lineup)
the only thing is I don't get get why Otis Smith wants Carter now. I mean.. he called Carter "fool's gold" in 2007.

Am i the only one who will go an make the trades now on 2k9 like an idiot?
lol no. after the trade deadline/FA period i always make those adjustments and test out the new teams. the only reason im not playing right now is becasue i dont want to have to play Z and Shaq together

This is a total guess, but look for Josh Boone to get included in the deal with VC. This would give Orlando a cheap backup big for another year and I don't think Nets will resign him anyway next year, with Brook Lopez as their future.

and i must make the big name rookies and whoever the knick pick. Yeah, cleveland needs a placeholder forward to play Orlando in the game now though.

well seeing as how he was the first and only offensive option on a couple of bad Raptors and Nets teams (the recent ones without Kidd and/or Jefferson), what else can you expect?
Carter's a very underrated passer and playmaker. Give him some national spotlight in a winning system as a 2nd or 3rd option and he will start getting the love. In many ways, he's an upgrade in over everything Turkoglu does.
Plus, his "gangsta" mugshot on ESPN and player profiles does him no justice. If the trade goes down, Magic fans will see him in the interviews and get to know him better.
