he's a good shooter and a good story sure, but do we really need another point guard, especially one that's slow on defense?

Obviously, PJax would not want Chris Lofton because he is too short.
PJax likes Big PGs...SashaV, Steve Kerr, Paxson, Fish, etc etc.

However, the true roll of a PG in the triangle offensive is to be a knock-down outside shooter. Chris Lofton IS that.
Of course, you also want him to be a good defender, but Kerr was not a great defender. Fish is not what he used to be. Paxson was not a great defender. Sasha is scrappy...I will give him that.

Chris could defend the bigger PGs like Deron much better than he could guard the quick PGs like CP3.
