From my experience, AP scores don't really matter when applying to colleges and could help once you get there depending on where you go. Colleges want to see that you take the Hardest Classes (AP for some) and challenge yourself. They then look at how well you did in those classes, which is primarily judged by your GPA, and not your AP scores. Good scores help, but I don't think bad scores hurt.
It is nice to have credit when you get to school though. Some schools take it, others dont, but its worth your while to build up some good scores to get out of some entry level classes freshman year (Less hours taking in school=More drinking time).
