Default The Jamaal Tinsley Saga

http://www.nypost.com/seven/10032008...ets_131908.htm

From the rumors page

Quote:
Locked-out Pacers point Jamaal Tinsley was traded to the Nuggets for Chuckie Atkins and Stephen Hunter, The Post has learned.

The deal is contingent on Tinsley passing a physical. Chronically injured over the last four years (only once playing more than 42 games) and embroiled in violent encounters on three separate occasions (none of which he instigated), he spent all summer in Atlanta rehabbing his body and is said to be a great condition.

Denver assumes his $21M, 3-year debt. Atkins is due $3.24M and $3.48M while Hunter is guaranteed $3.86M and $3.69M. Less than half of their total salary remaining is guaranteed.

BUT this is also from the rumors page so

http://blogs.indystar.com/pacersinsi...sley_deal.html

Quote:
I've talked to a couple people - one from the Pacers camp and another from the Nuggets camp - this morning and both sides say point guard Jamaal Tinsley has not been traded to Denver for point guard Chucky Atkins and center Steven Hunter as reported by the New York Post.

"We're not going to comment on any trade rumors involving our players," Bird said through a team spokesperson this morning.

If there's no deal at the moment, it doesn't mean things can't change between the two teams later today, tomorrow or some time next week. Remember the Jermaine to Toronto deal?

The deal, if true, would have pushed the Pacers roster up to 17 players.

The Pacers have talked to the Nuggets, along with just about every other team in the NBA, about Tinsley, but they've yet to be able to come up with a deal.

At least they lose a year of Tinsley's contract. Atkins is basically meaningless. Hunter can defend a little at least. But Tinsley is gone and thats the main bonus. But not sure if the deal actually went through. WOuld you guys be satisfied with this deal if it is true?

Wow, first I've heard of this.

As happy as I would be to get rid of Tinsley, I was hoping to get more out of him then another center, and as you said a meaningless PG.

Hunter is long and atheletic, vut we already have about half the roster full of centers, . Can he play PF? If so, we could go with

Rasho/Foster/Hibbert/Murphy/Hunter
Murphy/Foster/Hunter/Croshere/Williams
Granger/Williams/Dunleavy/Rush/Croshere
Dunleavy/Rush/Daniels/Williams/Granger
Ford/Jack/Diener/Daniels

We need to pull a 3 for 1 trade, methinks.

Well, both Atkins and Hunter have a year less ont heir deal, so that in itself is pretty nice considering the value that Tinsley has around the league. But the players are not going to help much. Hunter is another mediocre big man and wont be making much of a difference. But save a year is not bad

For me saving a year is good enough, I would not mind that trade and I actually hope a little bit that the trade is true. Because I don't think we can get a much better trade than that for Tinsley alone.

the trade doesn't make sense to me. why bring in another point? we could get atkins and just waive or trade him. hunter could be servicable, but then whose spot does he take then? josh mcroberts would have no chance as would croshere.

Apparently there's no deal, but there was no JO deal to, so we'll see.

I'd take this deal and run. I'd have liked having an Atkins from 5 or so years ago, he was a solid back-up. Now he's a contract, but would be a nice vet presence I suppose. I'm not sure what's up with Hunter, he's a young athletic kid but has been on 4 (I think?) teams and he's only 27. Hasn't got much burn at any stop, provides some defense in a pinch I guess.

But that isn't the point, it'd save a year on Tinsley's deal while splitting his contract basically in two, making trades a lot easier. Both guys would be potentially waivable, Atkins moreso. McRoberts can go back to the D league. Of course, there's no deal.

Is it true that only $700,000 of Atkins contract is guarenteed? So if we were to wavie him, is that only due? Or do we have to pay him the whole $3.2 million?

the 2nd trade...NO WAY. I would definatley do AI for Tinsley and Murphy. Denver wouldnt do it though. They save too much money next season to let AI go right now.

I'd turn down an AI for Tins + Murph deal (but I'd consider it). I imagine Denver'd have no interest, they want cap space. AI's $21m off the books next summer, Murph and Tinman are due something like $35m after next year.

As amazing as having all that cap space would be to make a run at a guy like Boozer, we're in fairly good cap position already. I'm not willing to ruin the chemistry bringing in a guy like Iverson. I'm a fan of his tenacity, but not his teamwork.

I've seen that said by a few Denver fans here, I assume it's true. If I remember correctly it's just the last year (09/10) with 700k guaranteed, so if we were to buy him out should he be acquired I guess it'd be the 3.2 this year + the 700k next year for a total of about $4m.
