Default Its great he's going to Indiana

Illinois fans are crying and saying "unfair" yet they don't even want to admit their team has been put on probation. Its not a clean program.

Indiana not only has never been on probation, it also has about the highest graduation rate of all public schools (Penn State is up there too). NBA scouts will know an IU grad isnt likely to be a thug or an idiot.

Of course IU also has a great basketball tradition 5 NCAA titles and the last team to go undefeated.

Eric Gordon has said he wanted to go to IU ever since he was a young kid. He didnt feel comfy playing for Mike Davis. When Mike Davis left and Sampson was hired - Eric showed the interest.

Look at it this way - many people apply for college and grad school at several schools and write an essay ( thats correct IN WRITING) of why they want to attend that school. If someone applies and gets accepted to say Kentucky or Arkansas and later is accepted by Harvard or Cal and then goes - what's the problem ? it happens almost every time someone applies.

As Illinois is far from a clean program - they have no business commenting.

I hope Derrik Rose understands how potent a combo he and Eric Gordon will make - and how much fame they could have together a SG and aPG. That way he will choose Indiana over Memphis which is actually a worse program than Illinois in a a much weaker conference.

Default Not only do I bash Illinois but if you were able to read

I've also bashed you. You claim to be an Illinois fan yet you claimed on the Illinios thread that you didnt even know the school was put on probation for a major infraction just last year! I even gave you the thread ( umm that means you have to click it and read).

You made a foolish prediction about Gordon illustrating you had no clue what was going on. You're only getting what you deserve.

NCAA has IU walking the line

The NCAA scrutiny surrounding Kelvin Sampson, Indiana University's new coach, has placed added pressure on IU's compliance office to ensure the men's basketball program stays within the NCAA's vast rulebook.

There have been 123 secondary NCAA violations committed at IU since Jan. 1, 2001, according to records obtained by the Evansville Courier & Press this week. Two of the three most recent have occurred in men's basketball in Sampson's short tenure.

One violation did not involve Sampson, according to the report. A Bloomington, Ind., sports complex improperly advertised on its marquee that three IU basketball players were working at the camp. Rules dictate the players could only be mentioned in the camp brochure.

The other violation occurred at a camp for high school players June 11-15, when coaches did not give a required educational session on NCAA rules and eligibility requirements. Sampson, assistant coach Rob Senderoff and compliance director Christian Pope received letters of admonishment from athletic director Rick Greenspan.

Indiana being a clean school my ass. As far as it having one of the highest graduation rates, it's because it's a 2nd tier school. Illinois is consistently in the top 50 with a top 10 business school and top 5 engineering school, which INCLUDES Ivys and other great privates.

This article is PRO - INDIANA recruiting - the violations occured at OKLAHOMA now Illinois fan Oklahoma ( notice the different letters) is a DIFFERENT school and state than INDIANA.

Lets make it simple- Has Indiana ever been on probation NOOOOO
Has Illinois YESSSSSSSSSS

If recruits want to talk, why shouldn't Sampson listen?

On ethical issues it's hard to side with Sampson -- and make no mistake, while it's within Sampson's rights to pursue Gordon, I'd advise Gordon to honor the commitment to Illinois.

For one thing, Weber has a better track record of putting guards in the NBA. For another, Gordon gave his word to Illinois, and Illinois stopped recruiting other guards because of it. For another, until Sampson produces years of blameless activity, he'll get no breaks from me. Sorry. That's the way it is.

Also, Gordon isn't the only Big Ten commitment Sampson is recruiting. He's also trying to convince Iowa recruit Beas Hamga, a 7-0 Cameroon native with Bloomington, Ind., ties, to consider the Hoosiers. Sampson's no saint.

But it's not easy to root for Bruce Weber here, either. He gets high-and-mighty about this issue, though he can only speak in generalities because NCAA rules won't let him discuss unsigned recruits, even one who has committed to Illinois. Still, Weber makes his position on Sampson clear.

"Everyone's raised differently," Weber says, a vague-but-vicious shot. "But for me, if a kid commits -- the school made a commitment to the kid and the kid made one to them -- it's done. To me it's off limits."

Sounds noble. Weber wasn't so noble last summer,

Default very very interesting!

Well, I am glad I was able to start such an interesting post! Whatever it's worth. I find it very very interested and it really changes a lot of things for both programs I think!

Eric Gordon is a very very talented and I think I have send it before they say he could be better then Oj Mayo. I guess only time will tell!

It could be interesting to see it all play out!
