Great players can be overrated. Doesn't mean they're not great, but just rated a little too high. There is a valid point to someone saying Oscar is overrated, he never won as the first option, in fact he had very little team success until he was Kareem's sidekick. People brought that up about Kobe for years, so why not Oscar? It has nothing to do with eras. And as far as Russell, he's the only player widely considered top 10 who was offensively challenged, in fact most have him top 5 which makes him a bit overrated in my opinion because I think he should be rated more like 9th. People bring up the 11 championships as if he didn't have a ton of help from some of the other all time greats like Havlicek, Cousy, Sam Jones ect. In fact he was typically the 4th option offensively. Both Oscar and Russell had great careers and Oscar is surely top 15 while Russell is defintley top 10, but people ignore that there's a big double standard when rating those 2 in particular.
I don't consider any eras weak. I think things should be viwed in proper perspective such as supporting casts and roles on championship teams or pace(particularly with rebound stats). I rate Cousy as top 15 because of his greatness for his era and how he changed the game. It doesn't mean I can't call other players from that era a bit overrated. I think certain legends were great, but rated a bit too high so what should I call them?
You know who is! Dirk and Bynum! And having them in the hall of fame when they are supposedly over rated only gives evidence to your arguement for their over ratedness.
Anyone that says Bill Russell was over rated, needs to delete their account immediately.
Explain where I'm wrong. He's commonly rated ahead of players he clearly didn't dominate as much as such as Shaq, Magic and Bird. Russell was a winner, but he played on a ridiculously stacked team that suited his game and covered up his offensive limitations. He couldn't carry a team the way Shaq, Magic and Bird could. He needed other players to do the heavy lifting offensively. A player like Shaq or Bird could go out and score 45-50 on any given night and carry their team even if the other team is having a good night. Magic could have a triple double, 20+ assists, 20+ points ect. and carry a team. Russell? He had a great impact, but he couldn't put a team on his back that way.
I honestly don't see how Russell was as good as Olajuwon. Many argue Olajuwon is the best defender ever so at the very least defense is debatable between the 2 while offense is not even close.

pretty much anyone in the HOF.
so stop saying guys like Cousy are over rated.
some tool earlier said Big O is over rated.
another knucklehead said Bill Russell is over rated.
what's next? Jerry West is over rated?
next decade, clowns will be saying Dr.J is over rated?
these guys are legends who kicked a$$ in THEIR era. That's good enuf for the Hall, and that's good enuf for you.
Your response to the laker fan who claims Jordan is overrated.
?!?!??! Samuel dalembert is a ****in bum dwight howard manhandled him
Yah, that would be sarcasm because people say wilt/russell/anybody from 50s/60s would suck today. Im making a joke of it by saying that that Sam is a great player, which is clearly not the case. Now would you kindly remove your head from your ass.
The guy whose name is "over rated" with the jordan avatar.
Oh, he's even worse.
jmho, but it is virtually impossible to over rate a guy who is widely considered the GOAT.
GOAT, iconic, etc. MJ is one of the few players you can legitimately say that about.
but, of course, that was not the point of this thread.
It just gets annoying seeing these kids trying to belittle legends just because they didn't play in the 90s or 00s. you know what I mean.
