Default Anyone read the OC Register today?

Little section on page 2 saying that Phil will be playing a lineup of Kobe, Artest, Odom, Pau and Bynum quite often He wants to keep Fisher's minutes down, 22-28 a game. Thats going to be one hell of a lineup. Thoughts?

I doubt he'll actually do it. He said he'd play LO/Pau/Drew together last year in training camp too, but that never happened.

I would love to see that lineup.. and then I start wondering about what the second unit would look like..

I think its a good idea for when the Lakers face certain matchups.. or in moments when Phil thinks they can 'overwhelm' a team with the lineup, leading to a blow out..

But to think that this lineup would be a regular one, is not being realistic..

It will usually be dismantled in 5 minutes when a big man gets two fouls..

Source: Jackson has a ‘big’ idea for line-up

Quote:

Derek Fisher no doubt will continue to hang onto the starting point guard spot, although he could face competition from Shannon Brown and Jordan Farmar.

Yet Fisher could find himself on the bench more often than expected and it’s not Brown and Farmar who will force him to sit. It’s Phil Jackson.

Jackson said he is tinkering with the idea of playing Kobe Bryant, Ron Artest, Lamar Odom, Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum on the floor at the same time.

“There’s a variety of guys can fit into that but also those five as an overwhelming group that can do some things - with the type of offense we run, they can function quite well without a point guard,” Jackson said.

a concern with the big lineup is transition defense. clearly it would be only for select situations.

also i wouldn't want to waste kobe or even ron on really quick point guards for long stretches of games

Think it is a good suggestion to cut down Fish's minutes.

Agreed. He could save the energy for when he needs him to hit crotch shots. As for the lineup, it may be a little too big. I wouldn't want to see this lineup against a fast lineup like the Rockets had during the playoffs when Yao got injured.

Well I heard, they hated the lack of speed of this combination. YOu then factor in the bench. 3 pt guards plus Sasha and Luke subbing for these guys? yuck!

Certain teams Phil will get away with it but some of the faster teams would eat them up on the break. Just got to pick and choose.

I think many are missing the point of the possibility. I dont think this lineup would ever be one used for all.. Phil's best quality is that he makes the best adjustments when it comes to match ups.. so maybe this, or a variable of this may be what he is pondering about, when facing some of the bigger teams such as Cleve, Boston, and even Denver for that matter..

I still think that Brown - KB - Artest - Odom - Gasol will be the best five.. they will have shooting, defence, and the ability to run.. However, I would hate to see Bynum lost in the shuffle, also. So its going to be interesting to see how all the minutes get dished out.
