Marvel pulled back the curtain on the long-teased Spider-Men series today, unveiling that the Marvel 616 Peter Parker will be meeting the Ultimate Comics Spider-Man, Miles Morales, for the very first time. Spider-Men is a five issue mini-series from Brian Bendis and Sara Pichelli with covers by Jim Cheung, and will launch in June.
The story finds Peter thrust into another universe while tracking down a villain, only to discover that the "him" of that new universe is dead and there's a different hero in his place. As the two meet and learn about one another, it will grow their characters and change their lives forever.
"This year is the 50th anniversary of Spider-Man and we're so happy that the stars aligned for us to tell a Spider-Man story that nobody has ever seen before," said Bendis. "It's an honor and a privilege to present both this story and these characters to fans on such an auspicious occasion. The work Sara has done on Spider-Men is a step above the already high standard that she has set for herself on our Ultimate Comics Spider-Man series. For me, this is a celebration of the best character in mainstream comics and some of the best art mainstream comics has to offer."
"This is one of the biggest stories in Marvel history," said Axel Alonso, Editor in Chief, Marvel Entertainment. "Peter Parker and Miles Morales are two of our most popular characters and fans have been clamoring for them to meet—we've got quite a few surprises in store for both characters. This is only the beginning of how we're celebrating Spider-Man's spectacular 50th Anniversary."
I'm reading Avengers vs X-Men (using this reading order - http://www.squidoo.com/avengers-vs-x-men) and so far i'm enjoying it. I haven't read a lot of X-Men lately so i'm not sure if Cyclops is being written out of character or not, but he's definitely coming off like a mad man.
Despite having not read many of the Captain America books, i'm in love with the character. I used to think he was cheesy, but after reading Civil War (over a year ago) the dude has jumped from not liked to one of my top five heroes. So far i'm liking what i've read of him in AvX. Unlike many I enjoyed the Captain America movie a lot as well and liked how Steve Rogers was portrayed.
