he states he plays defense w/ his feet and brain 1st, and his hands 3rd. where the heck is 2nd? who's on 2nd?
if two things tie for first place the next thing is third. it has to be.

division rankings:

1. Washington
1. Orlando (tie)
3. Miami

1. Brain
1. Feet
3. Hands

Yeah that's the bottom line. Of course you can do your best defensively if you try hard, but all the effort in the world can't help you if the guy you're guarding is too quick for you. You can move your feet all you want, fundamentally even, and he's still gonna blow by you because you're gonna move your feet too slow for even high school level perimeter guys. Even a dude like Bruce Bowen, ****ty as he might be, has to have quick feet to be able to defend so well.
well if you want to stretch the argument that far..

Bruce Bowen can't defend AI or Shaq, right? therefore he's not a great defensive player?

I'm not askin you to guard Shaq. You're saying you can be a great perimeter defender despite having limited athletic tools. I'm saying you can't. You can move your feet as fundamentally as you want......if you are limited in terms of quickness you simply can't guard talented dudes unless you reach/handcheck.

Well then that's more of the reason for your good defense than hustle and effort. Some people try harder than others on defense but you're basically attributing stopping someone to hustle/smarts when in all honestly it's more based on athletic ability. Someone like Kyle Korver could play as fundamental and intense on the defensive end as anyone........bottom line, he can't stop almost anyone from blowing past him regardless of how hard he tries.

yeah agree with this. if you dont have the athletic ability or the coordination to reach, then youre not a 'good' defender. no way you can keep up with an athletic player with a quick first step if you dont have athleticism, which makes you a bad defender. no fundamentals in the world are going to keep you in front of a man with twice youre quickness, handle, and everything else. and with no handchecking? ***** please

fundamentals can always be taught. athleticism cant. half the sob stories of good college players not making it to the NBA can be sum'd up by this.
