Default Who struggles the most when their athletic ability declines: Wade or Lebron?

Both of these guys are on top of the NBA. And both of these guys rely on their tremendous athletic ability to do damage on the court. Both have improved greatly their overall games and both likely are to continue to improve. But when the athletic ability starts to decline, whose game suffers the most? Wade has made a living off getting to the hoop and taking hits in the process. Lebron is a runaway freight train when he is going full speed down the lane. To me, a lot of their dominance has been due to their skill, talent, IQ and athletic ability.

For me, I am going to have to say Lebron bc I see improvement in Wades midrange game and he seems more fundamentally skilled overall. Lebron has a strong body with incredible speed. This is what sets him above the rest of the league. But when that speed and leaping ability, I think his game becomes more exposed than Wade at this point. Lebron has improved his midrange game and I have seen him in the post a few times this year, but he certainly needs refinement in his midrange. The midrange game is the bread and butter of aging wingmen. Its going to be interesting seeing who impacts the game the most when their athletic ability starts to slip.

And for the record, I am basing these assumptions on their games as of today.

To me, when Lebron drives in, he uses brute force and speed. Wade however, Euro steps and fakes. As for jump shots, both are improving and uses most of the time this season.

Wade. Lebron will still be able to post up and hit the boards and all of that stuff. When he can't get to the basket as easily Wade will become a jump shooter.

I'd say LeBron too, when that time comes he should have hopefully developed a decent post game...

I am not yet sold on Lebrons post moves. The thing is, Lebron is a very special player because of his strength, size and speed. There is nothing special to me about his post game yet. So I have no belief that he can really impact the game that much if he is relying on the post.

Wade still needs refinement, but he is just about money in the midrange. I think he can develop a Kobe-esque midrange game bc he has already shown nice strides. He has excellent footwork and has developed nice range on his shot

The clear answer is Lebron. Anyone that says Wade is a fool. He was still an All-Star even though he was banged up two years ago.

Saying Lebron is going with the assumption that he'll develop a post game and footwork. As of now, it's still Wade because of his better shooting and ball handling.

neither are gonna struggle all that much imho. they both have great fundamentals to fall back on as soon as their athleticism declines.

I think Lebron needs to make a conscious effort of developing his post game. I think he is working on it, but he still needs a lot more experience maneuvering in there. I think he has such a high IQ and great footwork so I see no reason for him not to be able to develop, but as of today its just not there yet.

As of now, Lebron. He isn't very skilled, but hes still got a couple years before he starts to lose a step. Wade will probably take a pretty big hit too though.

The question is who will struggle more, not less.

LeBron right now.

If Wade is dedicated enough, he can follow in the steps of Kobe at age 30+
