Default At 0-3 on the road, are we witnessing the end of an era in San Antonio???

4-4 on the year. Giving up 100 ppg. 0-3 on the road. Duncan slowed to a mere 'regular' star pace and production.

Is this team even a serious threat out West???

I say no. And it was pretty obvious from the offseason moves they made. SA's front office made desperate moves to salvage a last hope at a title run with their current core.

Only problem is, they went all offense, no defense.

That's why I @ the ISH 'experts' who were anointing this team to some imaginary 'Big __' status of the NBA. They are a solid team, not great. Basically they've turned into the Mavs of recent years. A nice 50-win team during the regular season who will do no damage in the playoffs due to their severe defensive shortcomings.

I repeat, this is not 2K10. This is real basketball.

I thought they would rebound somewhat this year... But it looks like it might not happen. But it's still early. The Hawks and Heat only have two L's and they didn't even win 50 games. So it's no decided yet.

Look inside the stats, not win-loss record. They are a shell of their former selves. They have little interior defense outside Duncan and he's not their player he was was, especially on defense.

The team has had it's better days, it's only down hill now.....they are NOT a contender, but will make the playoffs.

Lakers, Denver......best in the west.

Don't forget Portland and Dallas as a sleeper. SA could very well be playing for a #4 or #5 seed with the likes of Phoenix and Utah.

The two problems with the San Antonio Spurs are injuries and their newly acquired talent. Manu, Duncan, and Parker have all had their share of injuries this year, most of which comes with age and fatigue. All those years of playing out of their minds along with summers overseas has definitely taken a toll on them. Plus, when you restructure your team you will not mesh well in the beginning. Richard Jefferson has been average at best as they try to incorporate him into the offense. Dejuan Blair has been playing decent but with the amount of hype surrounding him, he has "failed" to live up to those (unrealistic) expectations.

Face it, the media is incredibly quick to jump to conclusions, negative or positive. They have to be. They can't sit back like an intelligent fan and make on-the-fence statements about teams/players. That stuff doesn't sell nor does it attract anyone. All we heard during the offseason was, "ZOMG DA SPURS WIF DER STEAL OF DEJAUN BLIRRR, DAT WAZ ROBBERY. OMDFG JEFFERSON, HEZ AN ALLSTAR." You can't change your lineup like that and expect everyone to be on the same page, especially when you're dealing with injuries.

Personally, I think the Spurs will be fine. They have certainly regressed from a couple of years ago, they are NOT a title contending team no matter how much the media wants to point them out to be. Their core peaked back in 2005, everyone (with possibly the exception of Parker) are on the downturn of their career (Duncan, Manu, McDyess especially). Don't even get me started with Michael Finley, he's been in the league for what, 16 seasons now?

Come April, the Spurs will probably have 45-50 wins, maybe a little more if they can stay healthy and hit their stride with this new lineup. At this point though, I'd be concerned if I was Pop. He may just save the important guys (Duncan, Manu, Parker) for the playoffs and hope George Hill, Mason, and Jefferson can carry the team.

This team has alot of new players and has alot of gelling to do.. if youre doubting the Spurs, youre stupid.

Manu has to adjust to playing with Mason/RJ.. RJ has to adjust to a new team, Mason has to adjust to playing with the new additions, Blair/Mcdysse/Bonner/Ratliff gotta find their comfort in the rotations, TP has to figure out his new bigmen/swingmen..

This is a completely different team then the last couple years.. with Manu coming off injury, RJ, new bigmen, etc.. this team needs to develop chemistry.. but once they do, watch out.

Good post and is dead-on. I expect to see far less SA fans around these parts.

You all had a good run. See ya...

No, I rather do exactly that. Instead of talking out your ASS, how about you explain how this team will stop squads from scoring night in, night out.

I don't care about gelling. No amount of gelling will improve their defensive principles with the personnel they currently have.

They have oneof the greatest defensive coaches of all time.. shiiii... one of the greatest coaches of all time, PERIOD. Give this team time to shine before jumping to conclusions, mr ESPN.

Until then, how about hopping off the Spurs diiick and jumping back on Lebrons. He misses you.

What? It often takes a while for players to get used to a new defensive system with different players. Once again, you have no idea what you're talking about.

Coaches play nowadays?? What, you think when the Lakers are on a 12-2 run that Pop's going to be calling timeouts, jump in the phone booth, rip off his Armani V-neck, fly back on the court to play the back end of the Spurs defense???

Another overreaction thread less than one month into the season.. start judging teams after the all-star break.

Well it is still too early to judge how good the Spurs are. Give them more time and we will see how they respond to this slow start.

If it's too early to judge the Spurs, why is it ok to make a thread saying the Lakers can only beat "Lottery teams and 1st round exits"???
