Default Hawks Sign Joe Smith

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4400517

Quote:
Joe Smith has agreed to a one-year deal with the Atlanta Hawks for the veteran's minimum, a source told ESPN's Ric Bucher on Friday.

Smith, a 6-foot-10, 225-pound center, is a 14-year veteran. He was picked No.1 overall by the Golden State Warriors in 1995 and has played for nine teams.

Smith picked Atlanta over Cleveland Cavaliers, where here played last season and which was offering the same deal.

Smith averaged 10.8 points and 5.5 rebounds with the Cavs in their first round sweep of the Detroit Pistons. He has career averages of 11.6 points and 6.7 rebounds a game.

Good stuff. They finally got a good big man.

That's a good addition to the Hawks. However I don't get Joe Smith, I mean the Hawks have a very very small chance of winning the championship and he really needs to have a ring on his finger.

But championship contenders (at least to this point) have the big men they need, both starting and off the bench.

Cleveland - Shaq and Ilgauskas
Orlando - Howard and Bass
Boston - KG, Wallace, Big Baby
Lakers- Bynum, Pau

etc, etc.

I think it was a good move, he can still help the hawks alot.

The Hawks finally got a reserve big who can post up.

Joe Smith is a good pickup. Hopefully the Hawks can add a few more pieces to round out the bench.
