Some yahoo columnist had an excellent idea. 16 team playoff, 11 automatic bids. So that is the 6 power conferences, the MAC, WAC, Sun Belt, C-USA, and the MWC. 5 at large bids. This would generate so much more interest in the end of season games in college football. Of course Texas against ECU or Ohio isn't much of a game, but imagine the excitement that would ensue if a team like Ohio knocked off Texas and Florida in consecutive weeks. Would be like March Madness in a way.
a 16 team playoff is not realistic, it will never ever happen. if they ever do cave it will be a 4 team playoff at most. theres too much money in these bowl games for them to just drastically change the whole system like that.
