Arrow Monta Ellis is drawing comparisons to Allen Iverson

http://www.insidebayarea.com/sports/ci_13991647

Quote:
PHILADELPHIA — Warriors fifth-year guard Monta Ellis has thrown his name into the All-Star mix with an explosive start to the season. He's averaging 24.7 points and 5.2 assists per game, both career highs.

He's doing it with an electrifying style of play, based on his speed and ability to get to the rim. He's doing it without much help, as the Warriors' predominantly young squad has been plagued by injuries. And he's doing it despite the fact he's just 6-foot-3 and 180 pounds.

Sound familiar?

"Allen Iverson was a little smaller," Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose said, "but Monta definitely reminds you of him. (Ellis) gets up a little higher, but they've got a lot of the same moves. They're real clever with the ball even though you know which direction they're going."

"I don't think he's the next AI," Iverson said. "I think he's the first Monta Ellis. He can do so many things I can't do: as far as the way he jumps. He's super fast, real aggressive. He can do a lot of things on the basketball court and he's young, he's only going to get better."

All I know is that he is averaging almost as many turnovers as assists. He has been god awful in that department all year long netting a 11 TO game, a couple of 9 TO games, and a couple of 7 TO games. But I guess his scoring mentality and undersized body can relate to AI

I had no idea about his turnover problem. Eleven turnovers in one game is just all kinds of bad. Damn.

He shoots the ball way more efficiently than AI. But he turns it over too much. Need to work on his handles and he's good to go.

It will be interesting to see how he develops. He got some major props from AI too which is pretty cool.

His handles are not bad. Actually he is among the best in the league. He just needs to work on his passing and decision making

No, he doesn't. You don't realize how much Ellis benefits from the post-2005 rule changes. A 30 year old Iverson who had taken a ton of pounding averaged a career high 33 PPG while shooting 45% from the field. He also shot 44% in his first year in Denver and 46% in his second. And this was Iverson past his athletic prime. You have no idea how much easier is it for guards to get to the lane compared to pre-2004. And I'm not even bringing up the fact that Allen Iverson was a volume scorer. Generally speaking, FG% tends to decrease when you're the focal point of your team, teams make a gameplan for you and you take a lot of shots.

Losing the ball happens when you handle the ball alot. Nash, Lebron, Wade, etc all have a high turnnovers per game number yet it doesnt change the fact that they are among the best in the league. if Monta Ellis didnt had elite handles he wouldnt be able to get to the rim almost everytime off of 1v1 situations.

Blah blah blah, I have the stats to show it, what do you got? Monta shoots 48.4%fg for his career. Iverson shoots 42.5%. Monta shoots the ball way more efficiently. Get out of here with those excuses.

well if you want to keep splitting hairs, ellis is "shooting" 36% for jump shots so far. Ellis is deadly when he gets around the basket but isnt a good "shooter" at all

That's this season, Ellis shot the ball way better than that percentage last season and the season prior. Even with that %, his career fg% still is way better than Iverson's.
