Default Re: Gilbert Arenas pleads guilty as part of plea bargain - Jail Time expected

6 months to 2 years is what he can face. They just said (earlier) that he most likely wont have to serve time in jail. Could the judge be trying to set some sort of example? Could it depend on his day in court? Is it definite he will serve some time?

Would this allow the Wizards to void his deal? if they can they surely will.

If they lose out on voiding his contract then what?

Then they are stuck with his contract. Apparently Arenas isn't happy about how the organization has handled this.

So would you rather try to trade him or void contract? I say seek trade. Then again when could you trade him?

He can't own any more guns either. You lose your right own a firearm with a felony conviction. I think he can still use bladed weapons for self defense. I wonder if he can stuff a crossbow or spear in his locker?

Well, now, that is the 80 million dollar question.

My prediction:

1) I say yes. I think they will void his contract and the players union will not succeed in any protest.

2) He will sent to jail for 6 months, out in 4.

3) He will be suspended for the rest of the season.

4) Stern will decide late, just before the 2010/11 when and what the conditions of his reinstatement are. He may just suspend him for another season too. It *really* pissed him off the pre-game antics.

Theoretically they could trade him right now. I would think they will try their best to void his contract first.

their team is in an awkward position because they came into the season in win now mode. They paid big money to resign Arenas and Jamison and this past summer traded the 5th pick and filler for Mike Miller and Randy Foye. I would think they had high expectations for this season.

Do they go from that to blow it up mode?

the only thing about jail time that would suck is that the Wizards benefit the whole situation. If he goes to jail than the contract is as good as voided imo. But the fact is they created this monster by letting him do whatever he wanted the past few years and reinforced that by giving him a bad contract. They also screwed him over based on a yahoo column that Gil was initially relying on them for legal advice/support. I'm hoping the judge gives Gil community service and a suspended sentence. Stern will probably suspend him for the season (he deserves it), but the Wiz won't be able to void the contract so easily then.

He's going to jail. He plead to a felony gun charge in DC. Unless the judge feels like standing in the unemployment line.

Pure speculation at this point.
