I don't think this trade would happen simply because of the luxury tax.. Buss won't want to pay $18mil and then $16mil the next two years for him.

FYI: The Lakers are in serious discussions to trade Morrison and Vujacic for Hinrich. Now that Chicago got Brown, Hinrich will certainly be traded, to which team is uncertain but the Lakers are in the running:

Lakers need an on-the-ball defender at the 1... Hinrich fills that need. They don't need scorers as they have plenty of those.

However, I would kindly question your point about the "Lakers are in serious discussions" as we have no fact to base that on.... the idea could have been floated to the Bulls and that is likely about it at this point, given that the offer is really not that good for the Bulls and I am sure they are trying to get much better offers than what the Lakers have allegedly offered.
