Everything's relative though. A dunk contest like this would've been fine in the 90's but standards have changed, and everything in life is judged by contemporary standards.

There's a reason why the dunk contest was discontinued during the late 90's. It just wasn't as great as the 80's or early 2000's. Dwight's participation was refreshing. Vince, McGrady, and Francis made that 2001 the legendary status that it is. Jordan, Olajuwon, Kobe... etc. It just seems like the contest really needs big names for it to be exciting.

It's true. Just like a lot of those 90s ones, this year's contest didn't have any big stars, which is what you really need for a great dunk contest. I mean, the only guy in the contest this year who plays more than 30 minutes a game was already in it once like seven years ago. If they could get Lebron, Wade, maybe Rose or Westbrook in it, everyone would go back to saying "the dunk contest is back! the dunk contest is back!"

This year helped me appreaciate 07. 08, and 09.

Those players prepared for their dunks a lot more, and it showed when they executed. It was a low year for the contest, but it helped me understand that the last few years haven't been bad at all.

i think mostly it our own faults.

Last year and previous years we started complaining about the excessive use of props and gimmicks thanks to D12 and Nate last year all started with the throwback jerseys.

Before them, people were complaining bout the lack of creativity which brought forth the props in the first place.

It seems like every "era" there's something new to happen so I think Kenny is right. The next few years might suck, but new stars are gonna come out and push the envelope.

The ones in the 80's were better? If so then I retract my statement, but they didn't look that great from the clips I've seen. They were just big names, but the dunks themselves didn't look that much better.

the year they used the spinning wheel and the copying the dunks from old dunk contests was just plain stupid and way worse than this years.

steve francis had to copy the one handed 360 dunk(might have been from clyde drexler but i can't remember) and couldn't do it cause he couldn't even palm the ball good enough.

Just invite Air up there and Guy Dupoy. Make it a Amateur vs Pro contest

Imagine Lebron+ Dwight vs Air Up there + Guy Dupoy

Sick
