Since the Kings might like to dump Kmartin's salary, the Mavs liked him before, and the Kings wanted some help up front, this trade actually makes sense.

The Mavs don't need another big name player. They need a good player off the bench. They're probably going to start Butler at the 2 and already have a decent rotation there with Beaubois and Terry. Why get yet another starter-caliber guard? Their players are so damn versatile that they are stacked at pretty much every position.

Their weakest link before the trade was Dampier in the middle. They solved that and more with this trade. Honestly, their weakest spot is true point guards, but even there... Terry and Beaubois can hold down the fort for 5-10 minutes while Kidd gets a rest every now and then.

The more I think about it, the more I think Dallas may have just made themselves the favorites in the West. Granted, Kobe can take over a game/series with the snap of his fingers and Dirk really can't, but I think the Mavs are more complete than the Lakers and Nuggets now. Especially since they have two seven foot centers to throw at the LA bigs, as well as Thomas and Najera if they get into foul trouble.

JJ barea is the best backup pointguard. We are actully so deep at pointguard that we some times see JJ, Kidd and Jet at the same time. Kidd guarding the SF. The problem is still a big man against the Lakers. Some Mav fans got this craving for Kaman, but it does not look they are trading him. I still dont see this team winning anything before they start playing real team defense night and day.

I honestly forgot about Barea, though I still would rather play Terry or Beaubois at the 1 over Barea.

that would make your back up center Armstrong/ Tim Thomas lmao

pretty much i puts all your scorers more jump shooters than there are now, you see how bad you guys were bullied by the Nuggz big men (we had Petro who never ever plays get like 16 and 5 on you guys) in the playoffs too... And ppl consider our front court small, so imagine against Boston/ LA

It makes sense... Mavs are in a great position, they landed good players and they still have a big ass expirer to trade.

it makes zero sense b/c that would put them right back where they were with just one real center. They made the deal more for Heywood than they did for Butler.

There are rumors that the Mavericks may not be done making moves yet, as a Rip Hamilton for Erick Dampier trade seems to make perfect sense.
The Mavericks still have a hole at shooting guard, while the Pistons have too many, and Dampier is still worth of starting at center for the Pistons. It's far from being a done deal, but the move would seem to make sense for both teams.

guys, you cannot blow up a team and expect them to perform effectively with so little time left in the season. 1/3 of the team is new and they now have to learn how to play with each other and establish rotations, etc. the mavs will not win the WC finals this year... period.

regardless or the contracts, kevin martin and another player for erick dampier would be insane, the kings would be retarted to do that trade and would be getting raped in that trade
