Local climate should dictate where the games go. It is the event where The NBA does a great deal of it's business. Conventions are held around the event. It is The NBA's showcase and the Association should work to make sure that it is as pleasant an event as possible. The rotation should be LA, Miami, Atlanta, Vegas, San Francisco/Oakland, Phoenix, and Houston. Exceptions to the cold weather rule would be New York, Chicago, and Philly. No one deserves anything it is all about smart business. Putting the game in Minny or Milwaukee would be silly and no CEO worth his salt would do so.

There is a reason that The NFL usually keeps the Super Bowl out of cold weather cities, The Detroit game was a disaster. No one wants to have to worry about coat checks when they are out on the town.

The Detroit game is a bad example, by a poorly run host(not Detroit the city, but the Lions organization.)

Also, anyone can come up with reasons any of those cities could have a fail event, even in warm weather. A good city is not measured by it's climate.

Every city with an NBA team should at least host the ASG once to be fair?

They've done a great job. That opening ceremony was great, even though I don't like that type of thing. They wasted a lot of money though. 30-40 million isn't what I would spend on an opening ceremony. It's already being called the best olympic ceremony of all time. They guy dying. I don't know whose fault that is. I blame the guy who was flying around on ice 80mph.

Dasher you are such a tit sometimes...

gaffe ridden? one big gaffe is the correct answer.

'they killed a guy'? track was approved by all the relevant authorities, lugers knew the risk, the guy went down the run 15 times before the crash.

do you blame the Germans for the Israeli deaths at the 72 games?

It's wikipedia, are you guys on crack? You think wikipedia is gonna break the news? Phoenix you're a nice guy, but goddamnit you're simple.

I got a bridge to sell you too. Wiki has it listed at half a mil, but i'll let you have it for half price. Nice location too, right by the great lakes.

Him crashing was obviously his fault. The fact that there were concrete posts right next to the track, at a site where crashing was a possibility, was a major **** up by everyone else involved.

Don't hold your breath... ASG 2012 is all but locked down for Orlando. The new arena opens up in 2011 but I'm thinking they want to make sure it's finished before Stern commits to the ASG. Maybe 2013.

ASG won't happen in Toronto until they're done the construction around the arena.

But I GUARANTEE you we'll get it once it's done. MLSE fat cats want a large stage to show off the hundreds of millions in reno's done to the surrounding area and the ACC itself.

Money talks. As the fourth largest market with an NBA team, we'll get it. Stern might have taken a detour from his original plan to handle the whole Donaghy incident and all the fallout that comes with it.. but he'll soon be back to his "international" agenda and Toronto is the key to that campaign.

Stern wants to go GLOBAL... and what better way to drum up interest than having your best international stars compete with the home-grown stars in the allstar game in the league's only international market?

2014 is my guess. That should be enough time to finish all the construction.

From Doug Smith at The Star:

Quote:
Someone was asking me Sunday night about the feasibility of an all-star game in Toronto.

Simple answer?

No.

Yes, the cityís great and has lots of hotel space and convention floor space and clubs and restaurants and thereíd be every chance itíd be warmer there than it was in Dallas.

The issue is the Air Canada Centre.

Itís a good building, with good seats for fans in a nice downtown location and most things work well in it.

But itís too small. No back-of-house space.

Heck, there arenít even enough dressing rooms for the folks who sing and dance, let alone all the stuff they bring with.

Honestly, the scope of this all-star thing is huge; people, props, stuffed animals, more people and props. The Air Canada Centre, for all its charms, simply doesnít have the facilities to handle everything smoothly.

Heck, when the Raptors get into the playoffs, they have to feed the media in a hallway Ė single tables stretched out along a wall Ė because the joint canít handle the extra people.

I canít even guess what itíd be like with an all-star game and, if they apply, I bet the league would have some concerns.

Sorry.

Besides, we keep hearing that after Los Angeles next year, the new arena in Orlando might be a host and so, too, might New Orleans be so you could be looking 2014 at the earliest anyway.

Maybe Maple Leaf Sports applies and gets it for a long-off year and, who knows, maybe they do the Saturday at the ACC and the game at the dome but Iíd be surprised.

Perhaps they follow Dallas' lead and hold it at the Dome?

Also, the running of the Olympics has no bearing on Toronto's ability to hold an all star game, whether the Olympics are well run, or not.
