Kind of looks like you could have played in Harry Potter. What exactly do the Falcons hunt? Like you release them...sit around shooting the sh1t with others and then oh look what my bird brought back
How does it work. That Falcon doesnt even look big. How does it attack and kill? I know the talons are sharp but what does it do...peck it to death?
How do you get a Falcon to come to you on command like that and they dont attack each other? They seem chill at hell in that 2nd photo.
''Falconry festival'' was a 2-3 day event on the old castle, where we were representing falconry to general public. I compared falconry to ''busy job'' because this hobby takes me around 5-6 active hours every single day to take care of everything. In my country there are jobs(which you get paid for) which take you 6 hours daily, hence the comparison.
Trained falcons mostly hunt ducks, pheasants, partridges,quails,... Shooting has nothing to do with falconry, that's the whole point of it, falcon is your weapon. Firstly you need to have a dog(pointing dog) and you run him on the field. When he finds prey and points, you release a falcon which goes as high as he can. Higher he goes, more chances for him to be successful because he is faster when stooping down on it's prey. Meanwhile, you have to observe the whole situation to see where falcon lands with it's prey. He can not carry it cuz ussually prey(pheasant, duck) is heavier than falcon. Then you offer him a piece of meat on your hand and he crosses on your fist and releases it's prey.
Falcons kill with their beak, they break the neck and spinal cord in a matter of seconds. Meanwhile, eagles, goshawks, redtails,.. kill with their talons. They pierce vital organs until prey dies. It takes more time and suffering till death is longer.
