Default NFL might change OT format for playoff games

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4953182

Who's actually complaining about the current format to actually warrant this potential change?

Both the O and the D get paid to play the game. If you are a safety and you blow a coverage cause you bite on a fake who's fault is that. If they use this rule you will have more teams playing safe instead of going for the win.

Teams actually try to win the game in regular time because nothing is guaranteed in OT. A rule change such as this will make the last 5-10 minutes of close games very conservative both teams will prefer to take their chances in OT.

say word....

Defense is a part of the game too.. If your defense isnt good and it gives up points in OT then you should lose the game...

stopping people is part of the game too..

The current format is fine. You screw up once, you lose. Don't reward poor defense.

there is nothing to fix, it is good the way it is now...

currently the team that kicks in overtime wins 51% of the time...

history has shown that there is no advantage to winning the coin flip...

I like it the way it is, no reason to trick it up...

the format they are talking about sucks

they probably came up with such a crap ass format to piss off the fans enough that they could turn around and say "See? Nobody likes it!"

The obvious solution has always been to mimic the college OT in everything except for the starting point of the ball. Move it back to the 50 to start instead of the 25.

Boom. Problem solved.

I think extra time is the best but i know it isn't like the nba where buckets come around often. A couple of timeouts should be able to do it. Overtime is overtime, at the end of the overtime, whoever has more points wins. More than 1 overtime is different, though.. but sh*t, they play once a week! Add ties, or a double overtime before ties. This new rule has a chance to mess with the whole season. The rules should be for the entire season or else it wouldn't be fair.

I have actually heard one senerio I kinda like...

just force them to play out a full 15:00 minutes...whoeveris ahead at the end wins...if it is a tie then it is a tie...

like the NBA

that wayh it is just consistant with the rest of the game...I don;t like trickin it out college style

If I remember correctly, wasn't a face mask no-call the result of a Green Bay loss in OT?
If so, wouldn't you give them another chance?

But I don't care what they do, I like it the way it is.

Anyone who doesnt agree with this change is not thinking RATIONALLY...

in soccer, when it comes down to free kicks.. isnt it the GOALIES job to STOP the ball too?.. what if only one team got a chance to kick?.. is tha FAIR? no!

you guys probably never played sports otherwise you know OFFENSE ALWAYS HAS AN ADVANTAGE....

therefor, to be 100% FAIR, both sides should get a chance ala COLLEGE or SOCCER or HOCKEY...

with this passing---- NFL football might become the greatest sport in the world and we are due for some EPIC overtime battles!
