Default Re: *OFFICIAL* ISH 2010 NFL Mock Draft

with the first pick in the 2010 ISH Mock draft, the St. Louis Rams select QB Sam Bradford from Oklahoma...

at 6'4'' and 235 lbs he has fantastic size for a QB, but he is also an extremely hard worker and the most accurate QB in the draft...anda future HOFer for sure...

2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma

Sam Bradford's first two seasons at Oklahoma are well documented. He threw for over 3,000 yards as a freshman and dominated the college football world as a sophomore, ending up with a trip to the BCS Championship game and a Heisman Trophy. Bradford could have been a first round pick after his sophomore season since he was draft eligible after redshirting in 2006.

Then 2009 happened. Bradford hurt his shoulder early in the season and it took about a quarter of the Red River Shootout for the Longhorns to send Bradford back to the sidelines. Now we have to wait and see how serious this injury really is. Even if he does not take another collegiate snap, Bradford will be an extremely accurate passer and has a good arm when it is not in a sling.

Bradford was considered by many to be the top player in this draft. But the short comeback from his injury raises a lot of questions. If he does not come back in 2009 (or comes back for another half before injuring his shoulder again), his stock will drop as NFL teams worry about his long-term health. One thing is for sure, if Bradford can stay healthy, he is the best quarterback in this class.

Default Re: *OFFICIAL* ISH 2010 NFL Mock Draft

With the 2nd pick the Detroit Lions select DT from Nebraska Ndamukong Suh

6-4 307lbs

40 time 4.98, bench pressed 225 pounds 32 times, 35 1/2 vertical

Quote:
Pass rush: Top-notch pass rusher with ideal height and length to affect passing lanes and wrap up quarterbacks. Constantly works forward until the ball is out of the quarterback's hand. Uses strong, active hands to jerk his man aside and keep blockers off-balance. Spins off single blocks and is quick enough to get into the pocket. Also able to split double-teams to at least get a hand in the quarterback's face. Recognizes screens quickly -- comes off pass rush to get to the ball or the sideline. Good awareness to get his hands up in passing lane to knock down passes. Has fair hands for the interception, especially given his size. Greatly increased his conditioning and stamina as a senior and seemed capable of playing every down. Difficult for right tackles to handle one-on-one on the edge as a 3-4 defensive end because of his strength and athleticism. Dropped into coverage at times and shows surprising agility and awareness.

Run defense: Very difficult to move and center-guard tandems can be blown up. Excellent backfield awareness. Holds up his man and keeps eyes up to make plays on the ball, even when engaged. Excellent footwork moving down the line on stretch plays, and will get off of blocks or explode through the line to make the tackle. His pads start off too high at tops, losing his anchor. Can protect his feet against the cut block. Hustles to be the second or third man in the pile and finish plays.

Explosion: Good quickness off the snap, especially if the quarterback doesn't change up cadence, but does not have an elite first step. Pops into his man's jersey and recoils if necessary. Quick enough to be a pass-rush threat and maintain the corner as a 3-4 defensive end.

Strength: Strong bull rush to push the pocket, even when double-teamed. Able to rip off his man with upper-body strength and hands, freeing himself to make a play. Greatly improved his strength against the run in 2009. Used as a goal-line fullback because he gets low enough to push the pile.

Tackling: Rare tackling ability and effort for a defensive lineman, leading his team in tackles the last two years. Very athletic for his size; able to change direction, break down and explode into ballcarriers. Wraps well with his long, strong arms; tough to escape his grasp -- even with one arm. Hustles downfield on short throws. Chases down the line.

Intangibles: Intelligent, low-key and mature. Suh became a vocal leader for the Huskers as a senior. Has improved his work habits and on-field toughness during his time in Lincoln. He's respected by teammates and looked up to by the younger players.

NFL Comparison: Richard Seymour, New England Patriots

Detroit added veteran DE Vanden Bosch and DT Corey Williams to the front line which let go of some lackluster names. Adding Suh who has the ability to also move to DE if need be, should improve the DL unit.

Default Re: *OFFICIAL* ISH 2010 NFL Mock Draft

With the 3rd pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select....Gerald McCoy, Defensive Tackle out of Oklahoma University (making him the 2nd OU player taken in the top three, and the third Big XII player out of the top three)

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have maintained all along that their biggest offseason focus this year would be on the NFL Draft. Their glaring absence in the free agency market makes this even more apparent, as they have only signed two players via FA, a backup LB/special teamer and a Safety.

McCoy is the best pass-rushing defensive tackle in this class. His quick first step and relentless pursuit of the quarterback would be a welcome addition to a Buccaneers defense that tied for 26th in the league with just 28 sacks last season.

While this is most likely to happen, there has also been talk that the Detroit Lions may pass up both Suh and McCoy and take Oklahoma State Offensive Lineman Russell Okung to protect last year's no. 1 overall pick, Matt Stafford. But it would be hard for the Lions to pass up on a 'once-in-a-decade' player in Suh.

The Bucs would run to the podium to make their selection if McCoy or Suh is available.

The Buccaneers have had a glaring whole on their defensive line ever since the departures of DT Warren Sapp and DE Simeon Rice. Even drafting Clemson star, DE Gaines Adams in the top 5 a few years ago didn't help as Adams turned out to be a "bust" by Buccaneer fans and most NFL experts, and was shipped to Chicago this past season for a 2nd round pick, before dying due to heart problems (RIP).

The Buccaneers have 10 picks in this deep draft, which is good because there are glaring holes at the defensive line, secondary and wide receiver positions. The addition of a franchise DT will greatly improve the Bucs defense, and get them one step closer to being a top 5 defense like they had been the past decade.

PS: GO BUCS!!!!

With the 4th pick the Washington Redskins select OT Russell Okung from Oklahoma State

6-5, 307 lbs

Okung is considered one of the best offensive tackles available in the 2010 NFL Draft, and draws comparisons to D'Brickashaw Ferguson. According to NFL.com's Gil Brandt, Okung "will start and play a lot of years in the NFL." NFL.com's Bucky Brooks even projects Okung as the No. 1 pick overall, as does Scout.com′s Chris Steuber. Sports Illustrated′s Tony Pauline described Okung as "a complete offensive tackle with a large upside," who "stands out in pass protection while also dominating as a run blocker". The Kansas City Chiefs are believed to be one of the NFL teams to target Okung in the draft, as well as the Washington Redskins. He could be only the second Oklahoma State offensive lineman ever picked in the first round of an NFL Draft, along with John Ward, who was selected 25th overall to the Minnesota Vikings in 1970, and the highest OSU draft pick since Barry Sanders went 3rd overall in the 1989 NFL Draft.

* 2 First-team All-American (2008, 2009)
* Jim Parker Trophy (2009)
* Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year (2009)
* 2 First-team All-Big 12 (2008, 2009)
* Dick Bogert Award (2006)
* All-Big 12 freshman team (2006)

The Redskins need help on the OL.

With the 5th pick, the KC Chiefs select:
Bryan Bulaga

Measurements:
6'5''
314 lbs.
Arm Length: 33 1/4 in.

Why the Chiefs Do It: With Scott Pioli running the show, it seems almost certain that Bulaga is the pick. Last year we saw him take Tyson Jackson over Curry, and this year Bulaga over Eric Berry. I think that will bite them in the ass, but because Eric Berry develops into an absolute star while Bulaga is just a very nice LT. He has great size for a tackle. Probably will struggle with speed rushers, but think about the AFC West I can't think of a speed rusher he'd likely have to face. Or any decent pass rusher for that matter, besides Dumervil. With newly signed Thomas Jones in the backfield with Jamaal Charles, and Chambers/Bowe to throw to Cassel has some nice players to play with. He was sacked 42 times last year, so putting the emphasis on the line so Cassel can actually be effective would be ideal.

With the 6th Pick in the draft, the Seattle Seahawks select S Eric Berry Tennessee.

Seahawks desperately need depth in their secondary (They only really have one safety) and Berry provides a hard hitting beast of a football player that opposing players will fear. He's one of those guys who can change the course of the game on defense. If the Ed Reed comparisons are true, Seattle gets one hell of a football player.

The Los Angelos Jaguares select Derrick Morgan DE-Georgia Tech

Aaron Kampman needs a playmate to make The Jaguares pash rush formidable in a division with great QBs. Derrick Morgan who projects as the best 4-3 end in the draft is the man for the job.

HighlightTape
Quote:
Pass rush: Good initial burst off the snap but is inconsistent in that area. Flashes an explosive first step to cross the tackle's face and good flexibility to get under the pass blocker's reach to get the advantage. Good spin move back inside to compliment his speed rush. Long arms and good leg drive for the bull rush. Can push the tackle into the pocket, rip to disengage and close to make the play. Alert defender that locates the ball quickly and adjusts his pass rush technique based on the down and distance. Learning to get his hands up to close passing lanes. Made significant improvements in this area as a junior and might be just scratching the surface of his potential.
Run defense: An underrated component to his game. Good size and strength to hold up against the run. Gives an impressive initial jolt to the tackle to separate. Good lateral agility and balance to string out the play and keep containment. Good pursuit laterally and downfield to bring down the runner from behind.
Explosion: A bit inconsistent in this area, but demonstrates an explosive first step when he's allowed to pin his ears back and rush the passer. Good initial pop to jolt the pass blocker onto his heels for the bull-rush and running game. Can disengage quickly with an explosive shove.
Strength: Has good strength and is improving use of hands to stack and control the offensive tackle. Struggles with leverage, at times, especially as he tires. Too often stands up rather than moves forward as the game goes on, negating his power. Good hand and arm strength to drag down ball-carriers as they attempt to run past him.
Tackling: Good body control to adjust in space and make the secure tackle against elusive ball carriers. Reliable wrap-up tackler that brings his hips and can make impact take-downs. Good strength for the drag-down tackle when engaged with the blockers. Good hustle laterally and down-field.
Intangibles: Alert, intelligent player that is consistently the last of the defensive linemen to settle into his three-point stance as he tries to diagnose the upcoming play. High effort player that teammates and coaches point to as a leader on and off the field. Has never missed a game in his collegiate career.

And Morgan has performed very well every step of the way. On many draft boards he has surpassed defensive ends like Carlos Dunlap, Everson Griffen, Jason Pierre-Paul and everybody else. Morgan even did some outside linebacker drills at the NFL Combine, but he seems to fit much better in a 4-3 scheme. Though, it is not a bad idea for him to increase his potential drafters since so many teams run a 3-4 defense. He should be much more valuable to a 4-3 team and the way he is going so far he will not last past the top ten picks.

Denver Broncos take....

Dumervil and Williams make the LB corp respectable enough so that Andra Davis's replacement doesn't have to be a stud LB (McClain) to keep them for being too bad. I would personally take Brian Price or Dan Williams as they are in desperate need of an upgraded run defense after their debacle last season...

However, I ultimately can't see Brandon Marshall with the Broncos next season and with both the NFL and Josh McDaniels being offensive-minded beings, they take Dez Bryant from Oklahoma State.

Dez Bryant Sophomore (Full) Year Highlights
Quote:
Strengths:
# Above average height
# Great hands
# Dominant on jump balls
# Attacks ball at apex
# Gets off line of scrimmage
# Nice sideline awareness
# Tough to tackle
# Good running vision

Weaknesses:
# Route running is still suspect
# Not very fast
# Lacks deep speed
# Could be more elusive
# Needs to work on reading coverages as he does not always identify the zone

Jason Ferguson is getting a little long in the tooth. The Phins draft his replacement. Parcells loves to fortify the trenches.

Default Re: *OFFICIAL* ISH 2010 NFL Mock Draft

With the 13th overall pick of the 2010 NFL draft the 49ers select:
Joe Haden, CB, Florida

5'11 190

Strengths
* Good timing and anticipation skills
* Excels in press coverage
* Sure tackler
* Sheds blocks well and locates the ball carrier
* Extremely fluid - sinks his hips well
* Fast enough to cover one-on-one without a lot of help over the top
* Fantastic closing speed
* Versatile athlete - was recruited as a quarterback and dabbled in the slot
* Durable
* Quick learner - only Gator in history to start the season opener as a true freshman

Weaknesses
* Poor straight-line speed: timed 4.57 and 4.60 in the 40-yard dash at the combine
* Not a lot of experience at the position
* Could stand to be more instinctual
* Overvalued in a weak cornerback class?

I read at many draft websites that his 40 was a 4.42 when he ran in front of scouts in March but at the combine it was 4.57ish. 49ers need a cornerback desperately and it showed last season when Nate Clements went out with a season ending injury. The 49ers get the best corner in the draft and the best overall talent available. The 49ers have plans on moving Nate Clements to a safety position if they do that they will need some depth at Corner and Haden will provide that. He will most likely be a starter or a 3rd corner for the 49ers and will give the Niners Clements,Haden,Spencer,Brown, and recently signed Palymah(sp?) from Denver. With the other pick SF has they will look to address either a OT/DE/OLB type of player. Stay tuned!
