Default What To Do This Summer?

Toss in ideas, thoughts, whatever you'd like. From trades, to free agency, to front office (Coach/GM) moves.

Do you think Larry Brown will come back to the Clipps?

Not after the finalization of Jordan buying the Bobcats.

Make a deal to fill team need, don't just make a deal bc you have the cap. Ideally, they need help at the small forward position. Lebron is the best option but unlikely. I want to see what Griffin is capable of so I wouldn't give a max deal out to an Amare or Bosh.

The Clippers need to keep Butler. Blake and Gooden and sign a swing man free agent. Joe Johnson is probably the most realistic one. Also, bring back Larry Brown. If the unthinkable happens and we sign Lebron, not much to say except for **** yea.

Pretty sure the they wont be able to keep Butler, Blake and Gooden. Gooden will depart for sure. Blake is likely out to sign on a decent team. Butler will go where the money is offered. Wouldnt want to sign JJ to a max deal, just don't think he is worth it. Rather have Gordon develop.

Of our free agents:

Steve Blake: Expect him to be gone. Dude will probably get a near MLE offer and he simply wouldn't be worth keeping to play about 15 minutes a night behind Baron. Won't be surprised if he goes back to the Blazers, but also expect the Heat & Lakers to go after him.

Drew Gooden: He'll ask for more than we should pay him. Again, I expect him to get a near MLE offer, or at the very least, a BAE offer and go to a contender. Nuggets can use him.

Rasual Butler: I expect him to be back, can't let him walk as his versatility and shooting can be used off the bench next season. Can play the 2 & 3 easily well along with spotting time at the 4 in some situations.

Craig Smith: Hope he's back. Him and Sofo as backups along with Jordan up front will give the Clippers a very dangerous front court off the bench.

Travis Outlaw: Think the Grizzlies will go after him if they lose Gay. If not, I expect him to go to the Nets.

Steve Novak/Brian Skinner/Bobby Brown/Mardy Collins: Gone.

In the draft, I see us taking Aminu. If he's not available, I see us taking David Ebanks from West Virginia. In the 2nd round, with our pick, we take Omar Samhan from St. Mary's and let him take Skinners role.

Free Agency:
Shaun Livingston to a 2 year/4.5 mil contract.
Earl Watson to a 1 year/4 mil contract.
Mike Miller to a 3 year/17 mil contract.

I see us making a deal with the Heat as well. We get Daeqeuan Cook, $3 mil, 3 2011 2nd Round Picks for a TPE to give Miami more cap space. Cook is a decent shooter who will provide nice depth.

Roster:

Baron Davis | Shaun Livingston | Earl Watson
Eric Gordon | Mike Miller | Daequan Cook
Al-Farouq Aminu | Rasual Butler
Blake Griffin | Craig Smith | Sofoklis S.
Chris Kaman | DeAndre Jordan | Omar Samhan

How about, if we strike out in FA, making a trade to get Shane Battier? Dude would be the perfect SF for us and is an expiring, so if it doesn't work, we won't be stuck with a long term contract. Only question is, what would the Rockets want? Maybe Sofo's rights and a 2nd round pick since it has been reported that they are also interested in the Greek? (Shit, then their big men would consist of an Argentinian (Scola), Australian (Anderson), Chinese (Yao) and a Greek (Sofo of course)).

Get a coach and trainer for Deandre Jordan - so that he can be the future of the Clips w/Griff.

this, one of the priorities needs to be the development of deandre, if that means trading kaman then so be it, he cant be playing 15mpg and expect him to get better

But what do we deal Kaman for? Some scenarios:

Kaman to the Pistons for Tayshaun Prince and a pick swap (to get Monroe/Cousins/Favors instead of Aminu/Patterson/Whiteside/Aldrich).

Gives us a solid SF, who is an expiring contract along with a better project big to go with Griffin/Jordan/Rhino up front.

Kaman, 2nd Rounder to the OKC Thunder for Nick Collison, Thabo Sefolosha and #25 (Ekpe Udoh/Larry Sanders)

Nets us a replacement in Collison who is expiring, Sefolosha is a solid defender at the wings and is locked in for a nice long cheap contract. Udoh will most likely not be there but Sanders would be a solid third Center behind DJ & Collison. Damn good defender as well.

Kaman to the Bulls for Kirk Hinrich + #17 (Ekpe Udoh/Ed Davis/Hassan Whiteside)

Hinrich would be a very solid backup PG and with Blake most likely not being back (c'mon, someone will offer him the full MLE), and Hinrich having two more years left on his contract, but the amount going down, he would be a good fit. Not to mention it gives us about an additional million or so in cap space.

Going based off of these Kaman deals, I'ma put together full offseason plans in the following posts:

I'd like to see Yi on the west coast. Either as a backup PF with the Clips, or with the Warriors. He could develop into a nice 6th man or shooting-PF-role-player someday, plus he would have a stronger following with the Asian-American communities here.

How about this 3-way idea?

Miami Out: Michael Beasley, DaQuean Cook, James Jones, Miami 2010 1st (or Toronto 2011 1st + Miami 2010 2nd)
Miami In: Rights to Sofoklis Schortsanitis, TPE via Clippers, 2nd Rounder via Clippers

Got this idea from a Miami poster on RealGM. Heat clear EVERY salary on the roster sans Wade, Chalmers & Anthony.

Warriors/Kings/Washington Out: #3/4/5 (Wesley Johnson)
Warriors/Kings/Washington In: Michael Beasley, First Rounder via Miami

W's/Kings/Wiz get a more polished SF, who is still young, along with an additional pick or a future one.

Clippers In: DaQuean Cook, James Jones, Cash Considerations, Rights to Wesley Johnson
Clippers Out: Sofoklis Schortsanitis, TPE, 2nd Rounder via Clippers

Clippers move up to get Wesley Johnson, while keeping #8 for other moves. Sure, we take on Jones and Cook's contracts, but is clearly worth it.
