Default Piano Discussion Thread

Hey just wondering if there is anyone else out there on ISH who plays piano or keyboard. I've been playing for a while now, but I still have a lot to learn. Have lots of questions for anyone who plays.

If you play, come on in and we can discuss.

used to take lessons as a kid (only for a couple years), took some college theory courses where I had to use it and still play a little bit in rock bands (mostly a guitarist) or to entertain my daughter. Mostly figuring out little things like the them from the office- american.

I had to play for 13 years as a kid, and that was all baroque/classical/romantic stuff mostly. Now I just play contemporary songs for fun.

Cool, you're welcome to join in.

I'm classically trained with the Hanon method, but my biggest problem is with rhythms, so my first question for anyone who knows is are there any good books out there for developing complicated rhythms? I've heard people say to get drum books actually, but I'd rather use a piano book that actually has notes...

Any advice would be welcome

I took piano lessons when I was a kid. The biggest mistake I made was giving it up because I thought basketball was cooler. I'm trying to get back into it. I can play the beginning arpeggio section of Rachmaninoff's 3rd Concerto.

They don't have it in the states? We still have it up here, in pretty much every school I have been to. Some schools have better programs but they still have them.

I like to make beats and stuff so I play it a little bit. I took lessons at a local college but it was in a class setting and and I just wasn't getting the attention the I needed. I'd like to be able to just freestyle some sick shit... but I don't want to put in the work right now to learn it.

I've played for quite a while now. Completed all the exams to the level just before diploma level and then stopped. I would love to have a diploma, but I was sitting my final high school exams and would have in all likelihood failed it. After finishing high school I've played for fun.

My favourite composer is Rachmaninov.

I'm currently learning to play "Bells of Moscow", which sounds great and is not too technically challenging:

I have always wanted to play his "Prelude in G Minor". To me it's the best piano piece I've ever heard. I used to listen to it before my exams at uni.

I downloaded the sheet music, have tried to play it and have failed miserably Unfortunately, I've lost a lot of my technical ability and this piece obviously requires a great deal of that.

Nice. Rachmaninoff is my favorite composer. I've been listening to his pieces since I was a kid. My favorite pieces are the 2nd and 3rd concertos, rhapsody, and the 2 preludes you mentioned. About a year ago, I started to work on the 3rd concerto, my "10 year goal". So far, I can play the arpeggio section in the beginning of the 1st movement right after the simple intro. Other than that, its hard to comprehend the song

This was in college. Most every college has a music program.
