This is a really ugly game so far. Both teams are playing pathetic D and both are missing tons of shots.
- Raptors D and shot selection is awful. I would like see a dunk count for Philly throughout this game as most of their points are coming on easy dunks.
- Philly just looks really lazy and uninterested on D.
Everyone knows the Raptors problems on D but their offense isn't anything too good either. They are a jump shooting team with no jump shooters, either the players have to change or the system has to change (more likely). Bosh is a good shooter, Mo Pete is a decent set shooter and that's about it, look at the rest:
Fred Jones: career 41% shooter, decent 3pt %. Nothing special.
Garbajosa: An AWFUL shooter, simply brutal. He was fairly bad in Europe but his shooting stroke has been among the worst in the league in the short season thus far.
Bargnani: Has shown nothing on the perimeter thus far. Which makes it even more baffling how every play has him standing beyond the 3pt arc.
Calderon: Bad shooter last year, seems improved but we'll see how long it holds up.
Anthony Parker: Really the only one we can't fully judge yet (and Bargnani). Too soon to tell if he'll be decent in his return to the NBA or not.
Ford: Obviously not a good shooter.
For a supposed "running team" the Raptors sure don't run that much and get stuck in a lot of half-court sets that end with many missed shots. Sam Mitchell is basically a lame-duck coach in this final year of his deal as well. The whole running system for this team is a good idea but it's not being executed consistently. The Raptors were the same jump shooting team last year but one of their best shooters (Mike James) isn't around anymore.
