Teams went back to back at least from 87-98, and if not for the Spurs, it would have been 87 to 02.

Not really that crazy.

Of the 30 teams in the league 14 have never won an NBA championship.

it's really not that bad, some sports only 2 or 3 teams have won it.

consistency isn't really a bad thing though either. it'd suck if the finals were basically a lucky draw and any team no matter how good or bad they are could win it on a good day.

If you look at the contenders this year, we are very likely to have a 1st time champion.

Cavaliers
Magic
Nuggets
Mavericks
Suns
Jazz

All of them are teams with 0 championships.

What are you talking about? The Celtics and Lakers have combined more than half of the championships in NBA history. The Yankees and the Cardinals who are in 2nd place in championships in MLB are nowhere near that number. 7 different teams won a World Series in the last decade, and in the last 20 years 11 different teams have won a world series. In basketball only 8 teams have won a championship in the NBA. The NBA is the only league in America where such a lack of variety exists in champions. I'm not saying it's a bad thing but it's obvious.

What are you talking about?
In the Past 5 years of the UEFA champions league there have been different champions every year. There are always going to be dominant teams in any sports like Manchester United, The Yankees, or The Lakers. Thats just the way it is, and no one can control that.

Default Re: Since 1979-1980 there's been only 8 title winners

From 1952-1976 five franchises, Lakers, Warriors, 76ers, Celtics, Knicks won all but one title (1971 Bucks) all winning at least two.

then in '77, '78 and '79 the Blazers, Bullets and Sonics won their only titles.

From 1980-2009 seven franchises, Lakers, Celtics, 76ers, Pistons, Bulls, Rockets, Spurs won all but one title (2006 Heat) all winning at least two.

This is of course because Basketball is a superstar dominated game more so than any other team sport. So which ever teams have the best 2 or 3 players all always contenders with an exception every four or five years.

In total just three post 1970 "expansion" franchises have ever won titles.

The Blazers (NBA expansion 1970)
The Spurs (ABA Merger 1976)
The Heat (NBA expansion 1988)

The Bulls, Rockets, Bullets and Sonics all came to be in the 1960's in the NBA's first round of expansion post shot clock.

Honestly doesn't surprise me, because there is always a group of players that gets together for certain teams that always battle it out for the title look Spurs from 1999-now and Lakers 1999-Now. For the past 30 years there was always players teaming up to dominate.

Magic-Kareem-Worthy
Bird-Parish-McHale
Kobe-Shaq-Fisher(jk )
Duncan-Robinson
Duncan-Parker-Ginobili
Isiah-Dumars-Rodman
Pippen-Jordan-Rodman
Hakeem-Clyde Drexler

I really think that this will continue for a long time, because I can't see any rookies coming in aka Duncan or Shaq that will totally change a team or any superstars like Wade Howard and Johnson or w\e all being on one team.

Notice how the Celtics and Lakers are two teams and the Yankees are one.
