Default Great teams are built through the draft are they not?

With the summer of 2010 looming and teams trying to move to the upper echelon of the NBA standings I couldn't help but think that while FA is a good way to put your team over the top the great teams always won with players that they drafted.

Do you think FA is the best way to make a great team or the draft?

I would say the draft.

Look what happen when the Nuggets got Carmelo and D-Wade. They both end up getting to the playoffs in their rookie seasons.

The Trailblazer had to rebuild after the Jailblazer area.

The Thunder had top picks year after year and you where their at now.

Its good to bring in some veterans to a team, but I like building through the draft.

If fans and management would be patient enough to wait on players to develop, then the draft would always be the best approach. Unfortunately, great draft picks become trade chips, and great draft picks that live up to they hype sometimes wimper until they get paid and put the team in a bad cap situation.

IMO, if everyone wasn't so damn greedy(some greed is fine, its compeditive) then we would see less wasted talent, and better development league-wide. I mean, really?
Some teams have awesome players on the bench, but rarely play them in contract years, because then they wouldn't afford to keep them if they raised their own value. On the other cheek, that player is frustrated and leaves anyways. Granted, it doesn't happen on every team, it's still a conspiracy.

It's good if you are looking to build around one player... Look at the most successful teams left.

Lakers-Drafted Kobe
Cavs-Drafted LeBron
Celtics-Drafted Pierce&Rondo
Magic- Drafted Dwight Howard

The Draft is important, but you need to be good with contracts in free agency and know when to trade and when not to trade.

This is equally as important.
