Default Isaac Bruce signs with St. Louis; will retire a Ram on Wednesday

Quote:
Rams acquired WR Isaac Bruce from the 49ers in advance of Bruce announcing his retirement.

He'll retire on Wednesday. A borderline Hall of Famer, Bruce has some serious credentials. The 16-year veteran holds every major Rams receiving record, ranks fifth in league history in receptions (1,024), and is second in all-time receiving yards (15,208). He is ninth all-time in receiving touchdowns (91). Our guess is that Bruce will get into Canton eventually, but not on the first ballot. While his statistics can't be disputed, Bruce may be viewed by some voters as something of a product of the Rams' system. He never made an All-Pro team, and it's hard to say he was every truly dominant.

1024 catches (5th all time), 15208 yards (2nd all time), 91 TDs (9th all time). Receivers are hard to gauge across eras with it being such a pass happy league now, but HOFer? Cris Carter had 1101/13899/130 and he's still waiting for the phone to ring.

well if it was up to me Bruce would be in 1st ballot...

Carter should be in as well I think, although I kind of dislike him as a person.

The 49ers "acquired" a conditional 2012 draft pick from the Rams in exchange for Isaac Bruce in Wednesday's ceremonial trade.
As we suspected, you can't make a trade for nothing in the NFL. The pick's "condition", of course, is that Bruce will play in 2011, which he won't. It's worth nothing that the sides had to execute a trade because the 49ers were unwilling to release Bruce outright. According to the St. Louis Globe-Democrat's Howard Balzer, the Niners feared he'd sign with the Bears.

Scary to think that with those type of career numbers Bruce will likely wait for a while (if he makes it at all) to get into the HOF.

The HOF-calibre recently retired WR crop is outrageous. And just wait until guys like Moss and Owens hang it up.

They'll both (Carter and Bruce) be in the hall soon enough. There's no 'if' about it.

Owens is the 3rd best WR of all time imo, and saying he "destroyed" every team he has played on is a huge stretch...he didn't "destroy" Dallas...infact most were shocked and upset when he was released...

I think if Owens should be first ballot, no questions asked...however because of his reputation, he might not be...

Always been a fan of Bruce. He was definitely getting to that point though.
