He isn't a "swingman," though. He's a combo guard- but one that can't really run the point, if that makes sense- that doesn't have the size of Kobe or Wade, much less LeBron. He isn't an all-around, dominating talent like those guys. He isn't even a great scorer like they are, just a really good one. I have a hard time seeing him be more than a 22-24 ppg scorer, without any other high-level skills to supplement that like Kobe, LeBron and Wade all do with their all-around games.
And in fairness, being the type of player I think he's going to become isn't a bad thing. Far from it. I think he's going to be one of the 20-25 best players in the league. But Rose will be an MVP candidate.
But I don't think, by the time their rookie contracts are up, that he'll be as good as Eric Gordon, much less Rose. This isn't really debatable at the moment, Rose v. Mayo. I suppose you can argue that Mayo will be better in the future, because you can forget about the debate for the next several years and ignore how much better Rose is now and how much better he's likely to be until that day comes- or doesn't- that Mayo becomes better.
That isn't a very strong argument, though.
