Re: John Wooden hospitalized June 3. On June 4 he died, age 99
The world has lost a truly wonderful human being.
In a world where the term legend is thrown out way too frequently, for Wooden it wasn't close to being enough.
On court, his record speaks for itself. Noone will ever live up to the shadow Wooden cast. He truly was a wizard, an icon and one of the greatest coaches of all time. I guarantee you, if there was a Mount Rushmore for coaches, John Wooden would be on it.
Not only was John Wooden the greatest coach of all time, he conducted himself with a level of class and dignity that was unprecidented and unrivaled. He always represented himself as someone who commanded respect, but did so without screaming, throwing things and being disrespectful. He was truly a father figure to those he coached and the many more who were blessed to have him in their lives.
Wooden once said about death that he wanted to be eulogized in three words-- Job Well Done.
I think its more than fair to say Job Well Done, Coach. The world is a lot dimmer now that you're gone.

Rest in Peace.
well said. i think you'd be hard pressed to find any former players who have any ill words towards wooden, even players who sat at the end of the bench and averaged two minutes. you can't do that about 99% of other coaches.
also, his devotion to his wife was on another level. true love actually does exist.
