Default Where did Jordan rank all-time at age 31

Since people here are ripping the Kobe-MJ's comparsions...

where do you think MJ ranked, all-time, at age 31? Three rings, three losers, just lost in the playoffs. Very few records.

My guess is somewhere behind Russell, Magic, Kareem, Wilt, Bird, and maybe behind West and Oscar. Of course, Shaq was early on his career, and Duncan had not yet joined the NBA.

Just some food for thought as we ponder Kobe's career up to age 31.

MJ at 31 was playing baseball. He was 32 in '95 when he lost to Orlando.

There was PLENTY of GOAT talk for MJ after his first retirement. You're out of your mind if you think Bird, Oscar and West were ranked ahead of him. MJ was superior statistically and had equaled Bird in rings. Even Magic back then was on TV all the time talking about how MJ was better than him. The only players with a claim to being ahead of him were Kareem and Wilt.

Kobe doesn't belong in this discussion. He has 1 ring as the MAN and is so severely short statistically and accomplishments wise that he'd have to win 8-10 championships in order to usurp MJ/Kareem/Wilt.

So Kareem's six rings, and 6 MVPs were already behind Jordan's marks at age 31??? Magic with his FIVE? Russell with his ELEVEN? Wilt, who held and STILL holds FAR more records? Bird with three rings and 3 MVPs, and a longer career?

Don't think so....

After 14 seasons in the league, Jordan was considered by the majority as GOAT.

The same cannot be said for Kobe. Not even close.

People are ripping the Kobe/Jordan comparison because its not valid. Jordan is and will ALWAYS be better, end of story. As far as a comparison with their age, at 31, Jordan was more productive, effective, dominant, and won as the main catalyst 3 times while Kobe is less effective, less dominant and certainly less productive all around. Kobe has 4 rings, 3 of those were Shaq led teams. Why make a thread like this? Just use some perspective.

How about after TEN years...and at age 31? I seriously doubt the majority of observers were rating MJ as the GOAT at age 31.

He was ranked the same as I rank him now - a TOP 5 player...he didn't get better after that, his team did and brought him more silverware

Not to jump into either players' camp, but I do recall that, upon Jordan's first retirement, he was considered by many to possibly be the best basketball player of all time. I hesitate to say the majority believed this to be true because I did not conduct a survey, but scientifically speaking, a ton of people felt that way.

Exactly. Many people considered Jordan GOAT in 1993.

Magic was one of them, as was Isaiah:
