Warriors weekly notes, Dec. 7, Starters constantly changing
HOW'S THIS FOR STARTERS: Through the season's first 19 games, Don Nelson has used 11 different starting lineups -- with no single unit having started more than four games together. Due in large part to injuries at various times to, among others, Baron Davis, Jason Richardson, Troy Murphy, Mickael Pietrus and Ike Diogu, 11 different players on the team's 14-man roster have started at least one game this season.
IT’S A TEAM EFFORT -- NINE DIFFERENT SCORING LEADERS: With 21 points (9-16 FG, 3-6 3FG) at San Antonio 12/4, Anthony Roberson became the ninth different Warrior to lead the team in scoring during the 2006-07 season.
WARRIORS ON TARGET: As a team, Golden State has shot 50%-or-better from the field in five of its last 11 contests and seven times overall this season (4-3 in those contests)...Overall, the Warriors are shooting 47.7% FG (5th in NBA) this season compared to last year’s 43.3% FG. (28th in NBA).
PUTTING NUMBERS ON THE BOARD: Golden State has scored 110-or-more points in five of its last nine games and nine of the last 14 games overall...Overall this season ,the Warriors rank 3rd in the NBA in scoring at 105.1 points per game.
NELLIE APPROACHING ANOTHER COACHING MILESTONE: Don Nelson is one victory shy of becoming just the second coach in NBA history to win 1,200 games in their coaching career (Lenny Wilkens, 1,332)...Nelson currently owns a career coaching record of 1,199-890 (.574).
YOUTHFUL WARRIORS -- SECOND YOUNGEST IN NBA: Of the 14 Warriors currently under contract, 13 are 27-or-younger...The list, along with the players age when camp begins: Andris Biedrins (20), Patrick O’Bryant (20), Monta Ellis (21), Ike Diogu (23), Anthony Roberson (23), Mickael Pietrus (24), Zarko Cabarkapa (25), Jason Richardson (25), Mike Dunleavy (26), Keith McLeod (26), Troy Murphy (26), Matt Barnes (26) and Baron Davis (27)...Adonal Foyle (31) is the only Warrior over 27 years old...The Warriors Opening Night roster this season sported an average age of 24.9 years-old -- second youngest in the NBA behind Atlanta’s 24.5 average.
ELLIS SHINING AS A STARTER: Monta Ellis has started 13 of the last 14 games and is averaging 18.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 1.15 steals and 35.8 minutes in those contests, while shooting 46.8% (94-201 FG) from the field. Overall this season, the 21-year-old is averaging 17.9 points, 4.2 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 1.26 steals in 33.6 minutes, while shooting 48.7% FG from the field.
NOT BAD FOR 20: Over the last 13 games, 20-year-old Andris Biedrins is averaging 12.7 points, 11.0 rebounds and 2.69 blocks in 32.5 minutes...In 15 games as a starter this season, he is averaging 10.5 points (65-109 FG, 59.6 %), 10.5 rebounds and 2.87 blocks in 31.2 minutes.
