Used to really enjoy rap, was never into it enough to go and search for some of the best though. I only really listened to Biggie, Nas, NBN, Eminem, Pharcyde etc.
That was a long time ago though that I was into it. I was always into rock, metal...that sort of thing, but I went through my hip-hop stage.
Recently been listening to Tyler the Creator though and fuck me, I love his stuff. I don't know what the consensus is on this guy (or the rest of OFWGKTA), but I really enjoy him/them. I noticed that their videos on youtube have millions upon millions of hits, so I assume they're pretty popular.
Sorry if I'm being clueless here, but I don't really pay attention to this sort of thing, I was just informed that I should listen to OFWGKTA by a friend.
the luda track, yes very southern. zeroh is a flying lotus/samiyam in rapper form, extremely experimental, los angeles based. the purrp track is an attempt to do a late 80's flow, similar to mc eiht or eazy-e.
that's a diverse selection i posted and it was just one post. it's not like i'm posting non stop trap 24/7. just whatever is interesting and i think is worth sharing. for kaiiu he'll probably be most interested in the luda/waka song. for jailblazers he'll probably be more interested in the zeroh song. rad will probably be interested in the purrp.
it comes back to most of you guys thinking "i like x, therefore i want y to sound a lot like x" that's why someone like action bronson not only exists but is extremely successful.
whereas i think "i like ghostface because he's ghostface, i like waka flocka because he's waka flocka" i don't think "i like ghostface, so i want a fat fvckhead to bite his style and sound. that would be really great!"
I'm very interested in the zeroh song. I'll have to check it out later cause I'm in the library but the Flying Lotus comparison definitely piqued my interest.
