the "real hip hop" "good rap = 90's new york. all rap needs to emulate it or it sucks."
I don't feel that way at all. I was bangin Big K.R.I.T.'s entire Return of 4eva while playin Madden with my boy yesterday.
I routinely put Project Pat as one in my top 10 becuz his track presence is undeniable and his inflections on certain words are . Plus he drops nasty references in a simple way. He's not poetic or anything, his music might not shake you to your core unless you want to go out and do some killa shit but damn it's entertaining. I feel the same way about Juicy J (cept he's not in my Top 10)
New York rap will always be my favorite but it's more about execution and rhythmic harmony for me these days. Not congested bars that scream "Look how bizarre my thoughts are." The wordplay is good but the lyrics do not tickle my fancy. Mainly I'm talking about Tyler and his comparable ilk.
You do realize songs that aren't "composed and controlled" like "Wonton Soup" and "Ellen Degeneres" are just him playing around right? He can actually rap.
I mean yea I've heard you guys talk all about that. How he's the 'counter rapper' and all that bullshit.
That doesn't change the fact that 95% of what I've heard him make is pure gaabage wackness that wouldn't exactly send me out to seek other material. Why would I waste my time doing that when there's tons of artists and musicians that I ENJOY listening to?
