Just because a movie has action in it, it doesn't mean that it's supposed to be stupid. Action movies of the 80s have destroyed any smart perception of action movies.
That's why I can't respect stupid action movies like this. Retarded movie is retarded.
If you want Oscar-winning performances and emotional development among characters? Don't even click on this thread, let alone watch the movie. But if you want awesome, needless, borderline-idiotic violence? Oh hell yeah. I was hooked from the MILD SPOILER ALERT opening scene where some guy got shot in half. And if I ever owned a gun, I would want it to be Crews' gun. Not that it would be legal anywhere. Nor should it be.

It's not on the level of the Batman series or the Bourne trilogy, sure, but it was still entertaining. I didn't go to the theater to see that movie with those actorsdevelop some kind of plot. The idea was to see Statham, Li, Couture, Stone Cold, Rambo, etc. **** shit up. And they did. Boy, they did.
I notice this trend in movie critiques both by critics and fans:
"It was really stupid, but alot of fun"
"Leave your brain at the door.....just an awesome action flick."
"What do you expect? Shoot 'em up action....bad dialogue, but who needs dialogue?"
When did this sh-t start? Its like a trend now to sort of appreciate somethings mindlessness or stupidity and then just "enjoy it for what it is."
Um....how bout no? Why can't something be action packed AND smart. Why can't it have a good story and well thought out?
Even the critics are trying to be more "fan friendly" with this trend. If something is dumb or stupid or whatever, call it out. Why are our standards getting lowered?
I haven't seen this movie, but I'll probably catch it on HBO eventually. I'm sure its ridiculous over the top action which is mildly amusing or fun, but basically dumb and meatheaded. But anyway............
I grew up watching all of Stallone's movies like the Rambo series, Rocky series, Cliffhanger, Nighthawks and hell, I even liked Cobra.
I doubt this is going to top Rocky or the first 2 Rambo movies, but I'm sure I'll enjoy it and it'll be a bit nostalgic.
I'm not just into "dumb action movies" I love most of the movies Pacino and De Niro released in their primes and many movies that critics love as well.
But I like variety in movies, I'll always have a soft spot for 80's style action movies as well as slasher movies and to me there's a time and place for all of it.....except chick flicks.
ehh, couldn't get out of watching it tonight. Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I guess it succeeded for what it was, a mindless throwback action flick. Plot was so weak though, if they changed the motives around a little bit, it could been a pretty solid movie. I thought the villain was weak too and I was loling at the "emotional" scenes, just so fkking cheesy. Sick of the zoomed in spazz filming during action sequences in all the movies in the last several years, that trend needs to go. Was VERY reminiscent of the Dirty Dozen to me, not sure if it was inspired by it but it felt like that to me. Probably something like 5 or 6 out of 10.

Not surprising it was reminiscent of the Dirty Dozen, Stallone has mentioned being a Charles Bronson fan, iirc.

You can't always have your cake and eat it too?

Obviously to piss off movie snobs. Not provide some entertainment while putting a little bit of coin in their pockets, like 95+% of movies/shows are solely created for or anything.
It's been awhile since I've seen a movie get these types of reviews.
People say it either sucks or it's great.
Transformers seemed to get the same type of reviews... People either hated it or loved it. I personally hated transformers so I have a feeling I will hate this movie as well... I guess I'll wait for the DVD or maybe I'll watch it online.
Just watched it online.... the movie was awesome!!!
Other than that Terry Crews was the $hit, Jason Statham was a bad@ss.
I give this film a solid B+ and I hope they make a sequel. Bruce Willis had the funniest line of all time.
what line dude? I forgot. I was high. remind me . ..
