Default Steelers are 2-0 without Big Ben.

Sounds like Big Ben doesn't deserve as much credit for winning those Super bowls like most idiots think.

Anyone who watches the Steelers routinely the last couple years would tell you the offense is completely and utterly lost without him for the most part. They've won these two games because their defense is playing dominant football. However, had Roeth been in there for the two games, instead of being close games that come down to the wire, it would've been blow outs or at the very least a game that wasn't coming down to the last play.

This current Steeler team isn't built for offense, anyway. They have a lot of their money tied up on defense. I believe the only "paid" offensive players are Roeth and Ward.....maybe Miller....everyone else is on rookie deals or near minimum contracts....so it's unrealistic to expect the Steelers to win this year with anything but defense and timely plays on offense. That will be the formula for succes.

Did you watch his first Super Bowl (XL) game? He was terrible. They won that one despite him, not because of him.

Wasn't he in his second year? Strange, a second year QB had an underwhelming performance in a Super Bowl.

His team still won.

And he was pretty damn good in their second Super Bowl.

He isn't a great QB and won't ever have Manning/Brees/Brady type numbers, but he's still a very good QB, that is vastly overrated, or vastly underrated, depending on who you ask.

Yea he is a good quarterback. Just pointing out he was awful in his first SB to reinforce the point the OP made about him getting too much credit for winning them. He second one he was great, and they won because of him.

He won that first superbowl because it was handed to him on a fcking silver platter by the refs. Worst officiating I have seen in a decade.

Everyone knows the first SB wasn't because of Roethlisberger. The second, though, he deserved that MVP award. And you really shouldn't disregard a QB because his team won twice without him. That's kind of dumb.

Especially considering we had one td and it was a kick return. No way we continue winning with this bad of an offense. Im excited for when he returns.

We only scored one td against atlanta too and that was because mendenhall broke off a run.

It's funny that people bring up how bad he was in the first superbowl but totally ignore how well he played to help get them there.

8 touchdowns/1interception and like a 120 QB rating over three games, all on the road.

Mark Madden, Pittsburgh radio host, spoke about who has been proven to be the MVP just now based on the word "valuable." When he started the topic, I instantly thought "Ok its Troy Polamalu." His answer was...Ben Roethlisberger.

God I hate that douchebag.

Back when the rape scandal was in full force, Madden would go on these tyraids about how Steelers fans should be supporting their quarterback and blah blah blah. Dude is a complete tool and Big Ben stan. I can even say his voice is a redeeming quality because its as annoying as his opinions.

I hate Big Ben's guts and think he's a real piece of sh!t (some bias there, certainly!), but he's one of the best in the game, and without him, they would be pretty lost longterm.

There are only a few great quarterbacks in this league, and he's one of them.

With that said, they would be better served to go back to a run first mentality, which it seems like they have been doing thus far, as "Steelers football" is about hitting you in the mouth, NOT airing it out downfield.

Watching Bruce Arians calls plays last season was very frustrating. I remember we kept going 5 wide and having Ben make adjustments on the fly. I understand Ben's a great QB Bruce Arians but he's not Peyton Manning. Our team is better off committing to the run and we always have been.

The team has always been about the run because, quite frankly, you've never had a legit quarterback who could sling it like Roethlisberger since Bradshaw.

I had no issues with their offense last year or the year before. The only difference between the 08 steelers and 09 steelers was how well their defense played.

Their line was a weakness last year, especially at the center spot. Pouncey may have the most immediate impact out of any of the guys drafted this past year. They would get consistently beaten at the point of attack last year.

Some of that was masked by Ben's ability to get out of the pocket and keep plays alive, but their running game suffered majorly.

When Roethlisberger comes back, the Steelers may be scary good. That defense is playing as dominantly as it did in '08 and they can actually run the ball this year behind a guy that may already be one of the NFL's best centers... Add the passing game and it gets scary for those of us that are fans of other AFC North teams.

Ended up 3-1 without Ben. 38 points vs the Bucs doesn't look like utterly lost to me.
