It is quite unfortunate that those who participated in the First World War are largely forgotten in today's day and age. When we have our Remembrance Days and Memorial Days, we think mostly about those still with us, and thoughts rarely stray to WWI.
These men fought in a gruesome, personal war, and most came home ruined because of it.
For those Canadians around here who wants to know more about WWI (it was the war which shaped Canada as a nation, and you SHOULD know about it), I'd suggest trying to find a copy of "For King & Empire", a 6 part documentary based on 5 or 6 people who participated in every major battle (Passchendale, Somme, Ypres, Vimy Ridge) and wrote letters home every day to their loved ones to describe their life. It's fascinating
(It also has a sweet rendition of Canada's original national anthem - "The Maple Leaf Forever")
