2010-11 Hornets training camp includes Jannero Pargo, Pops Mensah-Bonsu
The New Orleans Hornets announced today that they have signed free agent guard Jannero Pargo and forward Pops Mensah-Bonsu. Per team policy, terms of the contracts were not released. The addition of the two players puts the training camp roster at 17 thus far.
Pargo (6-1, 185), undrafted in the 2002 NBA Draft out of the University of Arkansas, has played in the NBA for seven seasons. For his career, Pargo is averaging 6.6 points and 2.0 assists in 15.7 minutes over 379 career games (18 starts) with the Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls, Toronto Raptors and New Orleans. Pargo spent two seasons with the Hornets (2006-2008), where he averaged 8.6 points and 2.4 assists in 19.8 minutes of play over 162 games (12 starts). He averaged a career-high 9.2 points, while being the only Hornet to appear in all 82 games during the 2006-07 season. In 2007-08, the Hornets won a franchise record 56 games and captured the Southwest Division Championship. Pargo was the top scorer off the bench in the playoffs for the the team that took the San Antonio Spurs to seven games in the second round of the playoffs, averaging 10.2 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 22.1 minutes of play over 12 games.
The Chicago, Ill. native spent last season with Chicago, his second stint with the Bulls, where he averaged 5.5 points and 1.4 assists in 13.2 minutes over 63 games (five starts). The point guard spent the 2008-09 season in Russia playing for Dynamo Moscow and in the Greek League playing for Olympiacos Piraeus.
Mensah-Bonsu (6-9, 235), undrafted in the 2006 NBA Draft out of George Washington University, has played in the NBA for three seasons. He signed a two-year contract with the Dallas Mavericks before the 2006-07 season and appeared in 12 games for the Mavs, averaging 2.4 points and 1.8 rebounds in 5.9 minutes. He played for Dallas’ D-League affiliate, the Fort Worth Flyers for 26 games (23 starts) during the season, averaging 15.8 points and 10.4 rebounds in 30.7 minutes of play. He garnered MVP honors at the 2007 D-League All-Star game with a 30-point, 7-rebound performance. He went overseas for the 2007-08 season, playing with Italian powerhouse team Bennetton Treviso. In Italy, he averaged 8.3 points and 9.2 rebounds for the season.
