Default Eagles and Browns trade RB's (Mike Bell for Jerome Harrison)

Quote:
The Eagles announced that they have traded running back Mike Bell to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for running back Jerome Harrison.

Harrison, 5-foot-9, 205-pounds, had 31 carries for 91 yards (2.9 ypc) and four catches for 42 yards in four games for the Browns. He ran for 862 yards a season ago.

Bell, signed as a restricted free agent in the off-season, has struggled for the Eagles. He had 16 carries for 28 yards (1.8 ypc) in five games.

I don't get the trade from our point-of-view. If there is one position that we are loaded at, it is running back. Bell isn't going to see much action behind Hillis and I'm not sure he is a better option than James Davis as the backup.

I don't have a problem in trading Harrison, because he was just wasting away behind Peyton, but why not target a WR that can actually get open instead of another RB that will sit the bench?

I don't get it...

Mike Bell has been the biggest piece of trash. He was brought in to be the goal line guy and the 3-and-1 type back but he's been horrible.

RBA, isn't Jerome Harrison more of a pass catching type back? Similar to what McCoy is? I don't know how he fits but Bell didn't fit into anything and Eldra Buckley is capable of doing whatever it was that Mike Bell was supposed to be doing.

Thank God that trash is gone.

Harrison can catch the ball out of the backfield, but you will be surprised at how well he runs in-between the tackles. Although he is small in stature, he can get some tough yards.

It is important for you to remember... Harrison didn't do anything to lose his starting job. He was hurt early in the season and that gave Hillis the opportunity. Peyton was so good that Harrison could never find his way back onto the field.

I was very excited about Harrison toward the end of last year and I really thought that this might be a breakout year for him. Instead, it ended up being a breakout year for Hillis, but I still like Harrison.

There is little doubt in my mind that you got the much better end of this deal. I don't see how Bell fits in. Hillis is one of the best goalline backs in the NFL... Maybe THE best.

The only way that this makes sense to me is if the Browns feel that James Davis has moved in front of Harrison on the depth chart, which isn't out of the realm of possibility. But, even then... Why not trade Harrison for something we actually need (WR)?

Maybe that's what the Eagles saw since that was the original plan for Bell. It'll be tough for Harrison to get on the field at all with how McCoy is playing but I feel much more comfortable now should McCoy get hurt.

Why wasnt Joe Thomas included? Only way the ground game can be effective.

I don't understand the point on the Browns side. Jerome Harrison is the 3rd down back correct? And Peyton Hillis is a power running back? So basically they just got another power back and lost a 3rd down back.

Harrison hasn't seen the field yet, but it's good to know Mike Bell didn't go to Cleveland and automatically turn good. 5 carries for -3 yards.
