What would you say were the most dangerous cities in America during the crack era?

Im talking late 80s-early 90s.

Please dont come in here bashing cities.
This should be a more informal thread if anything.

Los Angeles(including the rest of the county)
Chicago
Dallas
St. Louis

Detroit certainly wasn't nice. But I don't think it was really impacted that much by the crack boom or even "gangsta rap" or gheri curls. It was bad in the 70's, 80's, and 90's. And now too.

Personally, I think the real reason crime has decreased since then is only because so many people have left the city. In the 70's, there was over 1.5 million people in the city, in the early 90's, there was about 1 million people. Now there's probably 800,000 people in the city (that's probably a generous estimate), so yeah there's less crime. But is it any safer, or is it just cuz there's less people out there to commit crimes?

Also, considering the city has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country, one of the lowest high school graduation rates (at least as far as DPS, I don't know much about the new charter schools to be honest) and one of the highest percentages of population under the poverty line, and that makes people desperate. And desperate people do desperate things.

I dont understand how so many US border towns have such low crime rates. you look at the stats and san antonio, phoenix, san diego, and el paso all have crime rate like 1/4 of places like st louis, detroit, memphis, new orleans, philly, baltimore.....

What? I answered a question. Detroit was not a safe environment after the riots, and the "white flight" of the late 60's/early 70's, and the rise of drug "cartels" (heroin and eventually crack) YBI, Best Friends, Chalmers Brothers, and to a certain extent BMF, in the mid 70's to the early 90's.

So if you'd like, you can join me in blaming the decline of the city on the colored folks. And I know you'd like that.

Umm, in one year LA had over 800 GANG related homicides alone(actually this occured more than once)

Not really, but California as whole was just dangerous as hell.

San Deigo was getting 200+ murders

East Palo Alto, a city of only 25k, had 42 murders.
