I guess technically he's right.

There's only 2 teams left in the MLB right now, and he's been the best pitcher among that group.... right?

I mean he' s WON GAMES. I mean, who cares if he gave up 4 ER in 5.2 IP in his last outing, and had a 4.05 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP in his 3 previous starts? HE WON THE GAME.

Agree with those before me though... he's definitely a #2 (which is still really, really good) behind Roy.

There is no best pitcher in baseball, however he is in the elite group that only a handful of pitchers, if that, are in.

You can't separate the Halladays from Lincecums from the Felix's and so on.

This would be my exact assessment. After closely watching Doc play through all his years with the Jays it still amazes me when he steps foot on the mound and I'm saying this with unbiased intentions.

Well, I posted that before Giants winning it all.

Still, it's more of the TEAM winning, less a pitcher winning.

Halladay is still better than Lincecum at the end of the day.

The GM is starting to rub some people the wrong way
Default Re: Tim Lincecum is the best pitcher in the MLB

I just believe that this post season has shown us a few things:

1. People have highly overrated Cliff Lee in the context of a g.o.a.t. postseason pitcher when he should have never been brought up in the discussion in the first place.

2. DOC Halladay isn't in a class by himself despite what many thought or started to think.

3. Matt Cain is a legit ace and could very well be a CY Young canidate next year if he gets 30% of the run support he got this postseason.

4. If Timmy Lincecum isnt the best pitcher in baseball he certainly is on par with the likes of Halladay, Lester & Felix but I'd find it hard to argue not calling him the best right now considering he's went h2h w. Halladay and Lee and beat them both.

He shouldn't have been but only because he hasn't pitched enough compared to some of the other ones that people recognize. But a 2.13 ERA, 0.82 WHIP, 80 Ks and 8 walks in 76 postseason innings (where you don't face bad teams) is still amazing. It's just too small of a sample for now.

The Giants beat the Phillies and Rangers. Pitchers can have huge impacts on games but they face different lineups/combination of players and generally won't do much with the bat. A pitcher could throw a no-hitter and still lose if he doesn't get support.

What does run support have to do with how well someone pitches?
