Perhaps the Sonics won't be leaving the Seattle area after all.
Clay Bennett, Chairman of the Seattle Sonics and Storm ownership group, will host a news conference on Wednesday to announce the retention of an architecture and design firm to design a new multi-purpose sports and entertainment arena in the greater Seattle region.
a design of a new arena could be used just about anywhere....
the key issues are not addressed in this declaration:
who will pay for a new arena?
even with the possibility of a new arena in the bell-red corridor, bennet says he wans th city (whatever city) to make "significant contributions". the 'burbs are not going to commit major $$$ to this privately owned team by raising taxes-- the atmosphere is very much against public financing for the sonics
it is probably a smokescreen to give us a false sense of hope for fans not abandon the sonics as a "lame duck" team and to buy more tickets
i sincerely do hope i am wrong
