I won't argue too much over the early 90's lists because I didn't start watching regularly until the mid 90's. But I'll start from around '94 with Kemp over Shaq in '94.

O'Neal was raw compared to the late 90's/early 00's version and relied on athleticism more, but he was still a monster. 29/13/3 on 60% shooting(61 TS%). Kemp put up 18/11/2/2/2 on 54% shooting(59 TS%).

Both were disappointing in the playoffs by their standards and both of their teams were disappointing. Shaq's Magic were swept by the lower seeded Pacers in the first round while Kemp's Sonics became the first number 1 seed to lose to an 8th seed. O'Neal averaged 21/13/3 on 51% shooting(52 TS%) while Kemp averaged 15/10/3/2/2 on 37% shooting(44 TS%).

Statistically, Shaq annihilates Kemp and O'Neal's impact outside of the numbers went well beyond Kemp's.

And while I wouldn't rank Pippen number 2 in '91, '92 and '96 or Robinson number 2 in '99, I see the consistency since you ranked Kobe number 2 in 2000.

I'm not going to argue too much about Grant's rankings or a few others because we have a different criteria for ranking players. I see that winning a title does a lot for a player in your rankings, but I think that has to be put into perspective when discussing 2nd and 3rd options. For example, I like Grant, very good power forward. Very good defensively and on the boards, solid passer, good mid-range shooter and a smart player who finished well off of passes from Jordan and Pippen. But he was a 3rd option at best due to the fact that he wasn't a guy you'd play through in the post nor was he a guy who could really create his own shot.

Overall, good thread though, while my lists would be quite a bit different, I appreciate someone taking the time out to make this type of thread because it can start some interesting discussions.

Barkley was The Top Forward Till 1995 and Best Player in 1990

In 1992 he was called by Most People the 2nd BEST PLAYER in the NBA. Even internationally before the Dream Team

People forget this because if his injuries post 1995

Karl Malone was the Best PF in 1995-96 on till about 1999

Best Impact Player was Jordan but at making others better Barkley.

Jordan had Pippen and Grant. Barkley had nobodies for 53 wins

And yes Barkley was considered the 2nd Best Player in 1992 prior to the Olympics

Trash, Pippen and Grant weren't in their primes yet. Pippen was an all-star and Grant was solid, but Barkley had solid players.

Hersey Hawkins- 18.5 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 3.2 apg, 1.6 spg, 46 FG%, 42 3P%, 57 TS% (Good defender)
Johnny Dawkins- 14.3 ppg, 3 rpg, 7.4 apg, 1.5 spg, 48.9 FG%, 54.9 TS%
Mike Gminski- 13.7 ppg, 8.5 rpg, 1.3 bpg, 45.7 FG%, 50.3 TS%
Ron Anderson- 11.9 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 45.1 FG%, 49.9 TS% (Played under 27 minutes and came off the bench)
Rick Mahorn- 10.8 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 1.4 bpg, 49.7 FG%, 54.6 TS% (Physical player and good defender)

Now, Jordan's cast

Scottie Pippen- 16.5 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 5.4 apg, 2.6 spg, 1.2 bpg, 48.9 FG%, 52.8 TS%
Horace Grant- 13.4 ppg, 7.9 rpg, 2.8 apg, 1.1 bpg, 1.2 spg, 52.3 FG%, 55.5 TS%
Bill Cartwright- 11.4 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 2 apg, 48.8 FG%, 56.2 TS%
John Paxson- 10 ppg, 1.5 rpg, 4.1 apg, 1 spg, 51.6 FG%, 55.5 TS%

Hm, so Barkley had more double digit scorers on his team, a teammate with a higher scoring average than any of Jordan's teammates, a teammate with more rebounds than any of Jordan's teammates and a teammate with more assists than any of Jordan's teammates.

Both had good casts, neither had great casts yet.

And at Barkley being better than Jordan at making his teammates better.

Also, if Jordan made a bigger impact as you said then he's the better player.

1990 Jordan>Barkley in any season

What ever u wan`t Shaq. U did not Watch the NBA in the Late 80s and Early 90's. U are Shaq fan when young. I am an 80s dude so i can could see what where the best players after Kareem, Bird, Moses and Magic: They where Jordan and Charles, then Hakeem till 1993. After that Jordan, Hakeem and Charles till 1995.

After that it was Malone after Barkley`s decline, Shaq and D-Rob.

Charles had a higher winning % than Jordan 1987-1991 ALONE
THAN JORDAN WITHOUT PIPP and GRANT

Barkley was considered by the whole world 2nd Best in the Late 80s and Early 90's: but Magic go the hype BUT NOT FOR TRUE NBA FANS

Barkley before 1992 Olympics:

They Took it Out, In Italian "The 2nd Best Player in the Game"

***Chuck Daily 1992. Charles Barkley is the 2nd Best Player in the Planet after Michael Jordan

What ever Pippen or Grant averaged (stats pff) THEY AS PLAYERS WHERE BETTER THAN ANY OTHER PLAYER ON THE SIXERS SQUAD NOT NAMES CHALRES BARKLEY from 87 on

Where'd Mutombo go in 1995?

Also, Larry Johnson probably should've been on one list pre-1996. His back problems started before that.

I've seen many games from that era, I am downloading several more as I type this. I don't care how long you watch the NBA, your judgement will always be clouded by the fact that you want to play hide the salami with Barkley. Not to mention that 99% of your arguments include crap like PER and individual defensive rating.

By the way, i did watch Charles back during the '93 playoffs, my uncle lived in Phoenix for a while and liked the Suns and Barkley so Barkley was one of the players I liked the most and knew the most about as a kid.

And the funny thing is, you act like I can't comment on players who I didn't watch at that particular time('90-'92) despite seeing many games from that era, yet I've seen you comment on Bill Russell, who not only retired long before you were born, but there's not even a significant amount of game footage to go by.

Yet you want to act like I can't comment on Charles in 1990 despite you stating your opinions on Bill Russell in the past. Yeah, no double standard there.

Quote:

Pippen and Grant were rookies in 1988, idiot and nothing special that year yet Jordan won 50 games. And what does Charles winning percentage from 1987-1991 and Jordan's from '85-'87 have to do with 1990?

And what does Charles being the second best player have to do with anything? I said Jordan was better in 1990 after you said Barkley was the best in the NBA. Even though Charles wasn't the second best ine league.

My 90-92 might be a bit off. Truthfully I haven't watched a whole lot of NBA from those years, other then the Pistons in 90. I'm to lazy to do top 10, lol.

Karl Malone is very underrated in your lists.
if you like incorrectly rating players i might overrate or overrate people according to you, but i correctly rate players.

????????
Sprewell was all nba first team in 94 and he is not in the top 25....
sprewell led his 50-win team to a first round sweeping and played like trash. he was the warriors most disappointing player in the playoffs, even billy owens played better for golden state in that series.
Quote:
LOL Your the dumbass with Grant and Reggie Lewis over Barkley. Noting on your list makes sense and thats why nobody has agreed with u yet.
listen chinaman, grant and lewis were better than barkley, why would i be a dumbass by stating the obvious? nobody agrees with me? i didn't make a thread so people agree with me, i made a thread to announce official rankings of players and for them to change their lists to suit mine. if they want to keep their wrong lists as they are, it isn't my problem.

Worst list ever.
correct lists are the worst lists? since when?

Of course when me and others pointed out the obvious, that Jordan was the best player in the NBA at least one of the years in the 90s , he proceeded with similar derogatory remarks like he has posted in this thread. Only 2 years later he contradicts himself.
not at all. 2 years ago they were the official rankings. today, these are the official rankings. not a big deal. its good to know you care enough to remember my rankings of 2 years ago tho

His list two years ago was even worse

M.Finley should have been on 98 or 99 list
he wasn't close in both years. might've made top 35

Sir Charles is too damn low

Statistically, Shaq annihilates Kemp and O'Neal's impact outside of the numbers went well beyond Kemp's.
shaq was the second most disappointing player in the playoffs (only behind david robinson), and while kemp did not play at his regular season standard, he was alot closer than o'neal was to his. orlando was swept by a team with only 5 more wins than denver

Barkley was The Top Forward Till 1995 and Best Player in 1990
the only time barkley was the best forward was 1993
Quote:
In 1992 he was called by Most People the 2nd BEST PLAYER in the NBA. Even internationally before the Dream Team
15 players were better than barkley in 1992
Quote:
People forget this because if his injuries post 1995

Karl Malone was the Best PF in 1995-96 on till about 1999
malone was the best power forward from '96 til '98
Quote:
Where'd Mutombo go in 1995?
mutombo played nice in the regular season. but the playoffs were a totally different story with him being the most disappointing player out of anyone who played that season.

here is what he accomplished in the playoffs that year:

6.0ppg, 6.3rpg, 0.3apg, 0.0spg, 2.3bpg, 2.3topg.

nuggets were swept. he was their best player by far in the regular season, in the playoffs he was their 6th best player.
Quote:
Also, Larry Johnson probably should've been on one list pre-1996. His back problems started before that.
he came close on a couple of years

Are you serious??WTF?
1990 Jordan was at his best and nobody come close to him...It's laughable and very idiotic if you believe that Barkley was close to Mike!
Barkley was a great player but before start to compare him to any version of MJ think if he is the Greatest PF ever?Is he?No...Duncan is...Let alone Jordan....
Barkey nowhere near to the GOAT...
You are Barkley homer and you overrate him a lot....

Regardless of who was closer to their regular season level, O'Neal was better than Kemp in the playoffs. 5.9 more ppg than Kemp, 3.5 more rpg and 0.6 more bpg plus a far superior FG% and TS%.

Also, the Magic only won 3 more games than Indiana(who eventually lost in 7 in the conference finals) while the Sonics won 21 more games than the Nuggets.

I simply can't see a reason for ranking Kemp over O'Neal in '94.
